Product Description:
Sometimes slower is better - especially when it comes to the rate of protein digestion. While rapid protein absorption is desirable immediately before or after exercise, delayed release is probably more beneficial throughout the remainder of the day.
Casein proteins are pH sensitive and gel in the acidic environment of the stomach. As a result, it can take more than twice as long for caseins to be broken-down into their amino acid subcomponents than whey and other proteins. Because of these unique 'time-released' qualities, caseins are aptly described as being anti-catabolic, or muscle-protecting, proteins.

I used to take whey protein before bed for recovery and growth but lately my recovery times have been taking too long. This Gold Standard Casein works very well with over night muscle recovery. I mix one scoop of the Casein with a Gatorade sized bottle of milk, shake it, and drink it. Over all it does what i wanted it to, help me recover faster.
Taste- Well i knew it would probably be bad from what other reviewers have stated. In the beginning it was absolutely terrible. Two weeks into it, i can barley taste it. It will be hard at very first but you will get used to it. If its too hard for you, hold your nose while drinking it. You won't even taste it.
Be forewarned it is very hard to mix, its sticky, and likes to form chunks. POUR THE LIQUID FIRST THEN ADD THE CASEIN. If you add the casein into the glass or bottle then add milk, its not gonna be easy to mix. What i do is add the casein into my Gatorade bottle, then add milk, and immediately shaking it to mix them.
All in all i would recommend this to any serious body-builder that needs faster recovery, post workout.
P. s. I have not tried any of the other flavors other that Chocolate Supreme.

This is a good product for slow-acting protein needs (i.e. taken before bedtime to prevent muscle breakdown). But try one of the other flavors. Vanilla is passable, but not the best I've had.
Also, it is not spoon-mixable. You really need a shaker to blend it well enough (unlike Optimum's whey protein product).

Casein is meant to be a slow-release protein that you drink before bed in order to stop your body from braking down muscle mass. Also, it's incredibly filling, so you won't go to bed feeling hungry. I've tried other Casein proteins and none of them taste as good as Ultimate Nutrition's.
I works just fine mixing it with water as long as you use a blender, but with a shaker it comes out rather lumpy.
One thing, Totally AVOID the Banana flavor. It tastes awful when mixed in water, and it has a terrible after-taste. I can usually drink any flavor of protein drink, but this one is a real challenge. Vanilla is surprisingly good mixed simply in a blender with water.

What people need to realize here is that this is casein which I think MUST be mixed with a blender unless you enjoy clumps. This is by far the most pleasant casein product I've used to date. Someone said this has an awful after taste, how untrue! I can't tell you how many times I've just thrown the stuff away. Not this product! I add this to skim milk then use a small hand blender to mix. I then add crushed ice and mix again. This easily replaces my desire for a late night treat and I no longer wake up starving.

... complaints about problems mixing this product are because they are being posted by newbs. Heres how you do it...you do not have to use warm water as some newbs say to blend a smooth shake, in fact use the coldest water you want, even add ice to a shaker cup, the ice may even help the mixing process, then MOST IMPORTANT add the powder on top of the water and shake. Perfect everytime. Only newbs put the powder in a shaker then add water and complain about chunks. Chocolate and Vanilla are tasty with just water, the banana is garbage unless you mix with milk.
