Editor's Notes and Comments:

Description:
In the Antarctic, every March since the beginning of time, the quest begins to find the perfect mate and start a family. This courtship will begin with a long journey - a journey that will take them hundreds of miles across the continent by foot, in freezing cold temperatures, in brittle, icy winds and through deep, treacherous waters. They will risk starvation and attack by dangerous predators, under the harshest conditions on earth, all to find true love.

Amazon.com:
March of the Penguins instantly qualifies as a wildlife classic, taking its place among other extraordinary films like Microcosmos and Winged Migration. French filmmaker Luc Jacquet and his devoted crew endured a full year of extreme conditions in Antarctica to capture the life cycle of Emperor penguins on film, and their diligence is evident in every striking frame of this 80-minute documentary. Narrated in soothing tones by Morgan Freeman, the film focuses on a colony of hundreds of Emperors as they return, in a single-file march of 70 miles or more, to their frozen breeding ground, far inland from the oceans where they thrive. At times dramatic, suspenseful, mischievous and just plain funny, the film conveys the intensity of the penguins' breeding cycle, and their treacherous task of protecting eggs and hatchlings in temperatures as low as 128 degrees below zero. There is some brief mating-ritual violence and sad moments of loss, but March of the Penguins remains family-friendly throughout, and kids especially will enjoy the Antarctic blue-ice vistas and the playful, waddling appeal of the penguins, who can be slapstick clumsy or magnificently graceful, depending on the circumstances. A marvel of wildlife cinematography, this unique film offers a front-row seat to these amazing creatures, balancing just enough scientific information with the entertaining visuals. --Jeff Shannon

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - we can learn a thing or two from these penguins
March of the penguins is an Oscar winning documentary that evokes the mind of the viewers the survival against fiercely cold weather can be overcome by love. This documentary epidermises what true love is, from sacrificing one self to protect the egg, shaving one last bit of food despite being hunger stricken, to feed the young, and being faithful to return to reunite. It's an animal instinct but we call this human...I think we need to consider calling someone you hate, an animal. If I'm compared to these animals I'd take that as compliment.
The quality of the Blu ray is rather poor, but I bought this for 9.99 the day after thanksgiving, and I think it's not a bad deal.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Amazing film about amazing creatures
One of the best nature films I've ever seen. This is a documentary about animals that face some of the most hostile conditions on the planet and how they survive. well done!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great Edudational movie
Great movie about the life of penguins. far better than I thought. I feel I have a much better understanding of the hardship they endure and the possible problems forthcoming because of climate changes. Hightly recommend to anyone interested in nature.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - Don't even rent it
Mr. Freeman's narration is the only thing that saves this from 1 star. Poor picture quality, and a minimum of information, with long periods of things happening but with no explaination or details. "Emperor penguins endure 3 or 4 winters before having chicks, and then only one per year..." 'How long do they live?' I asked out loud... silence...

By comparison, Planet Earth has the most eye-popping cinematography I have ever seen in my life, and fascinating things are explained to you. It's 100 times more valuable and enjoyable, put your money where it counts.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent movie, terrific graphics on HD
This is one awesome movie. It follows the March of the Penguins to the breeding grounds. It was amazing what the penguins go through. I laughed and cried and cried some more. Great for any child or adult too. The graphics on HD were great too.
