Product Description:
Chicago socialite Amanda Delmar thought spending the summer in Cuttersville-Ohio's most haunted town-would be a hoot, until dearold-Dad cut her off. Now Amanda has to do the unthinkable and get... A JOB. Her attempts at joining the job market would crack up farmer Danny Tucker, if he weren't so turned on by the skinny, bronzed blonde. Hiring Amanda to babysit his baby girl may not be the smartest thing Danny has ever done. But seeing how she and her couture-clad poodle bring a smile to his shy daughter's face makes it all worthwhile. Now all Danny has to figure out is how to keep Amanda at arm's length, when she has already wriggled her way into his heart.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Cute but predictable story
The characterization was good and the story line was enjoyable. There were no surprises, but it had the typical happy ending. Overall, not a stand out, but a very enjoyable read.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - 4.5 stars
I approached this one with skepticism: A poor little rich girl who's cut off by her father takes a job babysitting a hot farmer's 8-year-old daughter that he just found out about.

I expected Paris Hilton & The Simple Life, with sex and "romance." I expected cheap laughs and cheap sentiment, but she made it work.

Not that I know any heiresses, but Amanda's personality certainly felt real. She had compassion and insecurity overlain with bravado and a slightly brittle carefree attitude.

I really enjoyed the parallels between herself and the little girl, Piper: though their circumstances couldn't have been different, they had a lot in common.

And Danny and Amanda both thinking the other is too good for them is classic romance.

My only quibble is that there were several abrupt jumps in time of a couple weeks or so--on the one hand, it makes the development of the romance more believable, but the transitions were clunky and left me mildly disoriented after each one.

I'm suspecting there's at least one previous book that's connected to this one. I'll have to look for it.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - The worst book I have EVER read!!!
This book is by far the worst book I have ever read, and I've read a lot. And I'm usually not hard to please when it comes to novels. I bought it because I am a huge fan of chick-lit and I thought it would be along the lines of the Shopaholic series. However, when I reached the second page I knew I had made a huge mistake. The main character, Amanda, is hardly believable and unrelatable. The author focuses on describing her perfect body and how perfect she looks with every single outfit, and her outfits are things that would never be worn by any normal, self-respecting woman..... at least not by any woman who actually reads!! The book is soooooooo predictable it is incredibly boring. The only good parts of the book are the sex scenes, but they are again completely unbelievable. This is the only book I have ever read from this author but believe me I will never pick up any of her books again!!!! If I could have given it negative stars I would have. Save your time and money and buy something else instead.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - The Not So Simple Life
I enjoyed this book. Ms. McCarthy is a wonderful author and the descriptions and characters were beautifully created. The dialog was also realistic and necessary.

Heiress for Hire is the story of Amanda Delmar, a wealthy, spoiled heiress with daddy issues trying to make it on her own in the tiny town of Cuttersville, and Danny Tucker, a strong, stoic farmer who just discovered that he had a daughter, and Piper, the daughter Danny just found out about who was emotionally scared by her stepfather.

This book had a good storyline and it was well executed but I never got the romantic connection between Amanda and Danny. They had some sexual chemistry and I understood that she craved someone to love her, but I never felt that Danny was her One.

It also didn't make sense to me that Amanda would want to spend her life in Cuttersville. What's she going to do? Dust? Piper is in school and Danny spends a majority of his time in the fields and Amanda never came across as someone who was going to have a passel of children and stay home.

I think I would have found it more believable if she had set up an interior design business for people with limited budgets. I must admit I thought that was where it was heading with all the talk about her lack of purpose and doing Piper's room with limited resources.

I enjoyed the Crying Lady leaving pennies for Amanda because she didn't want her to be "penniless" however I thought it could have been worked in a more meaningful way. Especially when it is revealed that Piper can see her.

The problems I had with this book that kept me from giving it five stars was the number of things I feel were left unfinished. Like, did Brady go to art school? Did Amanda ever reconcile with her father in a meaningful way? Was Anita really imaginary?

This isn't a bad book or a great book but it's a good escape on a hot summer day and Ms. McCarthy does a great job of creating characters you care about.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Heiress for Hire Review
I thought this was a great book. It had funny characters, great setting, and and interesting plot. Sometimes, it seems that authors forget what they are writing about while writing the book. The author might make the character do something that is out of character and maybe too early for the change. However, Erin McCarthy did a good job of making sure that the growth of the charcter was at a believeable pace.
