Product Description:
The New American Revolution A controversial and powerful manifesto for twenty-first-century American Patriots 'It's time to swing back the curtains and invite the light in. And that light is American Nationalism, perennially shunned by the Left, condemned by Socialists, and without any special interest group fighting for its rebirth. It has no legitimate advocates. And yet it is the very idea that will save not only our nation, but the rest of the world as well,' declares Tammy Bruce. With this remarkable book, the bestselling author, activist, and independent pundit pulls no punches, illustrating how a new American revolution is upon us -- a revolution based on American Nationalism and Individualism. Grounded in reason, classical philosophy, and hard-earned experience, Bruce explores the dramatic shift in American attitudes since the tragedy of September 11. She illustrates how in our effort to take this nation back from nihilistic extremists, American Nationalism, individualism, gun ownership, the tearing down of liberal institutions, personal activism, and knowing the enemy are the new tools for today's Patriot. The 'Hate America First' ideology has prevailed for far too long, says Bruce, and she now offers a powerful prescription to reverse the moral and cultural decay wrought by Leftist extremists for four decades. This power to stem the tide resides squarely within the reawakened American founding concept of 'E Pluribus Unum', or 'Out of Many, One.' It is this ingrained individualist spirit of the average American that makes this country thebest nation on earth, and now fuels the noble fight against the scourge of the Collectivist Left. In a positive framework with empowering ideas, insight, and tools for direct action, Bruce has captured a watershed moment in American history.

Well, here you have it. One of your own (Dennis Miller being another darling of the left who has awakened post-911) leaving the reservation. My hope is that the left will just continue their weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth, as their database dwindles, and moves inexorably to the well-deserved "ash heap of history". Get used to it, chumps...there's NOTHING you can do to stop it. Oh, and in your predictable anti-First Amendment fashion, DO try to quash my comments, because they make you (yes, they do) weep, wail and gnash your teeth, right? Good.

A feminist, lesbian, pro-choice, Democrat, past president of the LA chapter of NOW, spewing right-wing apologetics? Making nice with the so-called moral-majority? Exposing the agenda of the left-wing abortion-rights activists? Defending Christian principles? All while maintaining her pro-choice position and basic feminist tendencies? Could there be a meaningful discourse between left and right on these issues? One that doesn't result in the typical name-calling such as 'homophobe' and 'baby-killer'?
I was pleasantly surprised to see someone of Ms. Bruce's ilk coming to the defense of what concerns the American Christian community the most. The erosion of values and demonization of Christian morals in general. And maybe even more surprising is the fact that whatever Christians she dealt with did not blow it. Let's face it, we are all sitting back and praying that one of ours doesn't do something stupid that erases any and all progress that we can make toward a mature discourse on these matters. All it takes is one Eric Rudolph or a Cathy MacKinnon and everyone is back to square one, certain that all the 'others' are the devil's spawn.
The truth is that most of us are very much like each other. And Ms. Bruce has the courage to recognize that. She is not abandoning her feminist past, but only realizing that her enemy is not really the right. She sees that the left-wing collection of values include many things with which she doesn't necessarily agree. Specifically socialism, America hating, the erosion of freedom, the UN, ACLU, American acquiescence to foreign opinion, Bush bashing, and, believe it or not, gun control. How many of us compromise our values so we can convince our friends to vote for 'the party'? I call it the Chinese menu of American politics. Except you get to pick all from column A or all from column B.
She also sees the corruption and dishonesty on the left. The NOW covering up a bad abortion doctor so the anti-abortion crowd won't slam them over it in the media. Their secret agenda to promote abortions so the 'cause' remains vital and the donations keep rolling in. The promotion of socialism that is now only somewhat less than obvious.
If there is one criticism I have for this book, it is that she herself resorts to name-calling perhaps a little too often. I don't believe that I've heard the term malignant-narcissist mentioned so often. But then again, she is trying to drive home a point. So I'll dock her a star for the name calling. Let's just hope that one day, some of this sort of thinking will take hold, and maybe Christians could once again vote democrat, and feminists can vote republican, and each can do so within the realm of their own conscience and with consideration for each other.

Twenty years ago, Tammy Bruce was a dedicated feminst-lesbian-activist who was solidly in the cultural Democratic elitist left. Further, she was the president of NOW and had a bright future as a leader in the women's rights movement. Then, in her own words, harsh reality ganged up on a changeable patina or rhetoric with the result that Bruce has changed political camps. In THE NEW AMERICAN REVOLUTION, she explains how and why this was so. At the base of her conversion was her growing realization that feminist principles were founded on financially supported dogma that conflicted with NOW's own official political-feminist dogma. What was shocking to her was that no one else seemed to know or even to care. When Bruce learned that a well-known abortionist was encouraged by NOW to continue to perform abortions despite his having done so with such medical ineptness that several of his patients died, she became disenchanted with what she termed NOW's crazed mania for perpetuating the right to have an abortion even if doing so permitted clearly untalented abortionists to continue to ply their trade.
Bruce does not claim to be a reborn Republican as her former comrades of NOW label her. She insists that she is still a solid democrat, but the classical democrat once associated with Harry Truman and Jack Kennedy. It is the new democrats like Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, and Howard Dean who she counters have co-opted and corrupted a once proud political party that used to value the means over the ends. A classical liberal values open debate without screeching loudly about ad hominen attacks. In fact, Bruce labels the new democrats as fascists, and the linkages between that fascism and socialism and the left are becoming increasing blurred with each presidential election that results in a republican in the White House. Bruce defends conservatism as possessing the very values of the defunct classical liberal democrats that the new democrats so clearly lack.
Bruce also suggests other areas that separate her from her leftist former colleagues. She favors the rights of gun owners to possess guns and insists that states that have the toughest gun control laws paradoxically have the highest rates of gun-related crime. This connection between guns and crime is given too short a shrift for Bruce to make a causal connection. Readers need more than the anecdotal evidence of letter writers who claim guns have saved their lives for her argument to be convincing. Bruce spends the latter part of her book with ideas and tips for like-minded individuals to create a new "revolution" in political theology that would create a new radical individual who could combine the best of classical liberalism with Hannity-Limbaugh devotees who seek to break the media bear hug that the New York Times and the trio of CBS, NBC, and ABC have in their leftist spin on the news. For Bruce, even a movement of one concerned individual is not a voice crying out idly in a liberal wasteland of a desert. She urges Americans to step back and examine the politics of those cultural elitists who insist that the ends justify the means. When that happens, Bruce envisions a revolution in thought that will lead to a revolution in society, one in which the means, however important, must never be jettisoned from the public consciousness in its eternal vigilance to safeguard the ends.
