Product Description:
Nancy Drew meets Shrek in this funny, exciting new series of mysteries set in a community of fairy-tale characters. In the very first book, The Sisters Grimm (Book One): The Fairy-Tale Detectives, we meet Sabrina and Daphne Grimm, two seeming orphans from New York City, who have been sent upstate to live with a grandmother they had always believed was dead. As soon as the sisters arrive in tiny Ferryport Landing, they begin to unravel a mystery that reveals a family secret. Sabrina and Daphne learn they are descendants of the Brothers Grimm, whose famous books of fairy tales is actually a history book, documenting mischief perpetrated by magical folk called Everafters. Ferryport Landing was founded by Everafters who emigrated from Europe. Prince Charming is the mayor, Snow White is a kindergarten teacher, the Three Little Pigs are the police force—in fact, most jobs in town are filled by disguised magical folk seeking a new, peaceful way of life. However, there are still troublemakers in their midst who use magic to harm humans. It’s the Grimm family legacy to keep the peace between Everafters and their non-magic neighbors. The sisters’ very first case? A roller coaster ride of an adventure to stop a giant from destroying their new hometown.

The Sisters Grimm are a welcome addition to the ranks of literary girl sleuths, and their adventures are sure to enchant.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Capturing Take on the Brothers Grimm
I found that The Sisters Grimm Book One was extremely good! When I read it, the intricate details of the story were so well formed and surprisingly human despite the magical creatures in the book.

In the book, two sisters, Sabrina and Daphne Grimm, are on their way to Ferryport Landing, meeting with their grandmother (to live with her) who was said to be dead. Ms. Smirt, the social worker, had worked with the sisters to put them into foster homes. Henry and Veronica Grimm went missing a year ago with no traces or clues except a blood-red handprint (later identified as a marking of the Scarlet Hand, a mysterious organization). At very first Sabrina is skeptical of the Granny Relda and Mr. Canis, whereas Daphne is so happy to have heaping plates of unusually bright-colored food and a nice place to stay, but then they find out they are descendants of the Brothers Grimm and the fairy tale characters aren't so fictional. I enjoyed this book a lot and the subsequent six books are filled with mystery and fantasy. Great read - I definitely recommend it.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - "We're Grimms and this is what Grimms do. We take care of fairy tale problems."
Since their parents' sudden and unexpected disappearance 18 months prior, sisters (eleven-year-old) Sabrina and (seven-year-old) Daphne Grimm have been assigned to a series of foster homes, from which they have invariably escaped. So one can imagine their apprehension at the thought of being placed in the care of a woman they believed to be dead, their parental grandmother Relda Grimm. The elderly widow lives in Ferryport Landing, New York along with a rail thin man "just a friend" named Mr. Canis and 200-pound Great Dane named Elvis. With kind words and unusual (though delectable) cooking, the spry, spunky, resourceful granny quickly wins over Daphne. Sabrina, however, sticks stubbornly to the belief that she is merely an imposter with bad intentions, and drags her sister off through the woods in an escape endeavor foiled by firefly-like pixies. But when a giant kidnaps their guardians, the girls formulate and embark on a plan to rescue them. Though utterly filled with fairy tale creatures, the writing itself is on the simple side. And the mystery of the Grimm sisters' parents' disappearance is left mostly unsolved: a satisfactory, though simple fairy-detective story. Better in the original: Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales (International Collectors Library) and (for adults) The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Ms Gehrke's 3rd grade reviews The Sisters Grimm
This book is way too funny to read! Sabrina and Daphne Grimm are on their way to meet their supposedly dead grandmother. It turns out their grandmother introduces them to a magical world that is home to many fairytale characters known as "Everafters." Sabrina and Daphne find themselves on a mission to save their grandmother from a mysterious, stinky, monstrous fiend. If you are dying to know what happens, find it, read it, and you'll be magically carried away just like we were.

This book is guaranteed to be fun for adults and children alike. Daphne's spunky personality made us laugh so hard our tongues almost fell out! Our minds were twisting and turning with every paragraph because the author kept us wondering about what could happen next. If you don't read The Sisters Grimm you'll be sorry!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful series, even for adults
I've now reading book 4 of this series and love it. I bought the very first two books in the series on Sunday and had to go back to the store on Tuesday after I had already finished both books to buy the rest in the series.

The very first book really held my attention as the author not only writes well developed, interesting characters but the storyline is wonderful too. It's imaginative, funny and smart. A perfect read for any adult or kid. I highly recommend this book and the rest in the series as they would be a perfect gift for a kid or adult who likes fantasy books.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - What's not to love?
Every time I went to the bookstore, I perused the children's section. And every single time I was in the children's section, I would finger the spines on the Sisters Grimm series by Michael Buckley. By the time this very first book came out in paperback, I decided to buy it. Heck, if I didn't like it, at least I could give it to my little cousin.

Let's just say after reading this book, I've bought every single book in the Sisters Grimm series. It's just that good. Admittedly, there are a great number of books out there--for adults and for young adults--that revolve around the fractured fairy tale (or the like). What I like about Buckely's series, and what I think sets it apart from the others, is its humor. The book is just plain funny.

For one things, I really like the twist that they are Sisters Grimm rather than Brothers Grimm, and how the former is related to the latter. And instead of being a simple retelling of a Grimm tale, it incorporates those tales into one unique, stand-alone story. There's a sense of familiarity for the reader: We know of Snow White, the Big Bad Wolf, Prince Charming. The twist comes in that we don't know that Snow is a teacher, Wolf is a friend, and Charming is . . . Well, let's just say he's NOT so charming in this book!

These altered characterizations makes them NEW, which makes them interesting. It makes us want to read about them. Don't let the page count fool you, especially for those reluctant readers. The margins and gutter width are generous, the typesize is large, and the leading between lines is quite spacious. Don't get me wrong; that doesn't mean that there's no density to the books. There's plenty to read, but just in case there are younger readers who may turn away from a book of this length, to them I say, "You won't even notice how long it is!"

Plus, saying you read a book that's more than 200 pages is a pretty good accomplishment, indeed.

Read this book, and then move forward through the rest of the series. It's well worth the effort.
