Editor's Notes and Comments:
Description:
Although the original events depicted in this classic from the drug infested, gang dominated streets happened over thirty years ago, the life-changing solution that David Wilkerson brought to desperate lives was just beginning. The beat goes on. The change in the life of notorious gang leader Nicky Cruz, as shown in the film, proved to be wonderfully lasting and real. Nicky continues yesterday to reach young people around the world with the same life-changing message of the gospel of Jesus Christ that delivered him from violence and despair. And what about the skinny preacher, David Wilkerson, who braved the meanest streets of New York to tell desperate and drug crazed youth that there was a better way? Now, three decades later, he is still at it with a ministry based in Times Square that is still changing lives and offering genuine hope to countless souls who had given up on life.
Now in over 25 languages, The Cross and the Switchblade, starring Pat Boone and Eric Estrada, is one of those rare films that has shown its unique power to connect with the deepest hopes and fears of youth around the world. It remains yesterday one of the most compelling stories of love, grace and the truth that no one is ever so far gone that they cannot find the way out.

though the story is from the late 50's, still a wonderful evident of God's miracolous power to forgive and transform lives that could have ended at young age. Except a few sound mishops at end, the used movie I bought has good quality. Strongly recommended movie both for young and older.

This film is so powerful - prepare to be deeply moved! Real life account of David Wilkerson, preacher to the gangs who meets up with Nicky Cruz - warlord of one of the worst gangs who terrorized the streets of New York.
You can tell it was filmed on a low budget, but this doesn't detract from the film.
Emotions of characters range from fear, guilt, anger, bitterness, hate, rage to forgiveness & a love that overcomes it all.
Special features include a look at David Wilkerson's work yesterday on the streets, featuring some of the projects that have been set up.
A film that will inspire & challenge!

The acting was great. I don't remember Pat Boone being such a good actor, but he was terrific in this as was Eric Estrada and everyone really. The scenery was so realistic and helped to convey the desperation of the gang members' and junkies' lives. It is hard to put a great book on film and capture it's essence, especially for a true story. I think this one did a fantastic job. Riveting throughout.
Having been curious to read the book again,a fter seeing the movie, I hasten to add that a lot was left out. The basic idea is intact, and, again, they did a great job in the short time a movie takes. But if you want to learn more and be even more blessed, ya gotta read the book.
