Amazon.com:
As he did with Spinal Tap, Christopher Guest has the uncanny ability to perfectly mock and pay tribute to a music sub-culture. This time around, he spoofs the folk revival scene of the 1960s that spawned the Kingston Trio, Limeliters, and Peter, Paul & Mary with a movie about the reunion concert of fictitious groups Mitch & Mickey, the Folksmen, and the New Main Street Singers. Mitch & Mickey's romance-themed duets sound more earnest than campy, though it's hard not to laugh at the autoharp solo on 'A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow.' The real highlights belong to tracks by the hilarious Folksmen, whose repertoire somehow included a goofy song about the Spanish Civil War ('Skeletons of Quinto'), a harmonizing take on the Stones' 'Start Me Up,' and a tune seemingly about a train wreck in a coal mine ('Blood on the Coal'). Simply hilarious. --Jason Verlinde

I love this movie and I love the soundtrack. Some of the songs are sweet (Kiss at the End of the Rainbow) and some are really funny (Skeletons of Quinto). I listen to it over and over.

They Christopher Guest crew does it again and just about better than ever.
This CD is packed full of some of the most amazingly written, silly, bluegrass/folk songs that has ever come out. I listen to it at home often. The beauty really comes in the fact that not only is it fun and silly, but musically very very good.
The instrumentation and melodies get caught in your head all the time. The lyrics are wonderful and I wish that I could write tunes like that.
This disk also has a couple of extra songs that are not in the movie at all. "The Ballad of Bobby and June" is awesome.

I'm sure some people would want to argue their views about Citizen Kane or Throne of Blood, but those movies didn't make me laugh as much as this one did. Bonus features include great outtakes, and you can watch the Town Hall concert as it was broadcast originally. All the actors are top shelf, and the music is so good, you'll want to buy the soundtrack (which has a lot of great material that is not in the movie.) Every time I watch this film, I wonder if Mitch will make it back on time for the kiss.

After receiving a DVD three pack of Christopher Guest's Mockumentaries, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show and Mighty Wind, I was keen to hear more of these talented performers who form the core of Christopher Guest's films.
The talent of the actors as song writers and performers is amazing. You would be forgiven if you thought these people were really professional singers.
The three groups represented, The Main St Singers, The Folksmen and Mitch and Mickey are presented as real groups from the sixties and having a history of performances, albumns and fans.
This CD is meant to be a "Best Of" compilation of the works of these three groups, although as far as I can make out the songs are mostly new. The songs of the Folksmen may be older as this "group" is made up from the actors who created "Spinal Tap" and have been featured on previous Spinal Tap films.
The Main St Singers have very tight harmonies and are as good as any sixties folk group with tuneful and bright songs although the lyrics are way out.
The Folksmen are also a wonderful group with great harmonies and interesting songs. They have existed as a group since the Spinal Tap days and the rapport is evident in their songs which are all a joy to listen to. They also do a parody of the Rolling Stones hit "Start me up" which has to be heard to be believed.
Mitch and Mickey are also good to listen to however are not as musically strong as the others. The songs, however, are great examples of sixties romantic folk songs. "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow", written by Mike McKean (Lead Singer of Spinal Tap and The Folksmen) and his real life wife Annette O'Toole ( Martha Kent from the Smallville Series)was nominated for an Academy Award. Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara wrote some of the songs. "Standing subsequent to you", written by Eugene Levy for the film, could have been a real life hit and is one of my favourites.
This CD is a must for fans of the film and a worthwhile addition to the library of any folk music fan.

If you enjoyed the movie A Mighty Wind you will enjoy the cd as you can hear the songs in their entirety. I do wish they had included the Catheter Song, other than that oversight, the cd is great fun to listen to.
