Amazon.com Review:
Having to count while jumping rope can take the rhythm right out of a good jump-roping workout. That's why this smartly designed rope from Tanita manages the numbers for you. It's easy to use--just enter your weight in the handle's LCD display and start jumping. The display keeps track of calories and jumps as you go, counting while the rope's in motion and stopping when it stops. Comfortable and large enough for big hands, the rope's handles are lightweight and easy to grip. Because it attaches with swiveling clips, the adjustable 10-foot rope doesn't tangle up if you choose to jump backward or crisscross your hands. --Emily Bedard

I have burned more calories trying to untangle the mess of plastic rope and adjust the length to work with my height than I ever have actually jump roping with this money waster. What a bummer.

I gave this to my daughter for a Christmas gift. I don't know if she's used it yet, but she requested it and thought it'd be great. I think it's pretty 'pricey' for a jumprope.

Now that good weather has peaked around the corner, I have taken my Tanita jumprope out for a spin. I really like the fact that I can enter in my weight and it will not only count my jumps but also how many calories I burn. For me, this extra motivation keeps me going to the subsequent level. I only really saw a couple drawbacks. Accidentally, I went past my weight and had to go all the way past 300 and then back back to the beginning to set, because the counter goes one way (and you only need to hold the button down, not press it 200 times), which does not actually take very long, and the rope occasionally tangles, not often, but sometimes, due to the type of rope it is. I find it quick, accurate and a nice change of pace. It it also burns calories fairly quickly (about 110-130 calories per 10 minutes for a person that is 150 lbs-slightly less for someone lighter, or more for someone heavier). I have had my rope for a couple years now and have yet to replace the battery. If you'd like a little change in your work out with the extra added incentive of having your jumps calories counted, this just might be what you are looking for.

I had tried several times to develop facility with jumping rope, but I fatigued too easily and could never build stamina. I would jump for a minute or two or even three, but I would miss a jump and then feel like I had to start all over. Needless to say, I couldn't sustain a disciplined learning curve.
However, with this rope, I didn't have to worry about sustaining (or counting) a specific number of minutes of jumping...I could set myself a goal of xxx number of JUMPS, increasing that number each time, and thus develop the necessary stamina to make a jump rope workout as fun and effective as it should be. By setting a goal of JUMPS instead of TIME, it didn't matter how often I missed a jump...I could just start from where I stopped and the counter would keep clicking away. Even if every other jump was a miss (which wasn't actually the case), as long as I kept going, I could eventually reach my goal.
Well, not only was I able to build stamina and increase my jump goal each time, but the more regular attempts I was making (and persistence in going for my goal of xxx number of jumps) allowed me to develop the agility to jump longer with fewer misses. Before too long, I was actually a ROPE JUMPER!
I have bought other jump ropes--light "fast" ones, and heavier ones for more muscular development--and I enjoy each of them for the traits specific to them. But I never would have developed any jump roping skill at all if not for this terrific rope. I've had it now for a couple of years, and the battery has not run down, and I've never had any problem with rope tangling. Also, I am tall and it is hard to find jump ropes of sufficient length for me, but this one is comfortably long, (yet the length is adjustable and can be made shorter). I even bought one of these for another person and recommended it to still others.
All in all, a TERRIFIC jump rope! Viva Tanita!!

I received the Tanita digital jumprope, battery was either not included or dead. I could not unscrew the battery cover, since the screw was some off the wall phillips thing that even my eyeglass repair screwdriver couldn't move. I plan on returning it unless I can find someone to open it.
