Tempting The Beast starts out with Merinus Tyler arguing with her testosterone loaded male family members that she is capable of tracking down Callan Lyons, a genetically modified male who could become the investigative story of the century. She argues that as a woman she can get Callan to talk to her. Understandably, her brothers and father are not excited by her logic. However, Merinus has been half in lust with Callan since the moment she saw his photo and can't deny this inexplicable pull to talk to him, to see him. The moment she does, that lust ramps up to something neither she or Callan can resist. It becomes a chemical and emotional reaction that terrifies Merinus. It is a complete loss of reason and all they can do is feed the raging mating lust that consumes them.
Callan Lyons has been hiding from the soldiers the Council members have been sending after him since he was twenty. He had been bred in their labs to become a perfect, genetically altered killing machine. One terrible explosion later and Callan and his pack members run for their lives, and their right to live. Luckily they have with them a scientist from the Council who cares for them and helps them understand the ever changing DNA complications in their bodies. When the mating heat strikes Callan and Merinus down hard, it is this evolving science that might save their Pride and bring Callan a sense of family. Unfortunately betrayal within their ranks brings the Council back into their lives and danger to Merinus. Callan's genetic lion DNA comes roaring to life at the thought of harm to his mate. His only hope might be to bring his Pride out of hiding and into the public eye but will that be enough to keep the Council off their backs and Merinus from their labs?
Lora Leigh's very first book in the Feline Breeds series was one hot, orgasmic, shuddering, adjective filled romance. While some parts had me rolling my eyeballs, I still liked it. The beginning parts of the book had me practically panting and there were shivers running up and down my spine, as well as other naughty parts. I loved how Callan tried to pass himself off as just a man but when his lion side came roaring out, it was scorching! He finds this need to dominate and possess Merinus and when his barb emerges for the very first time, it was seriously weird and damned hot at the same time. You'll have to read it to find out what I mean. And for those who like to know, there was no menage in this story. This was my second Breed book (I've read Megans Mark) and I can't wait to read more.

I'm sorry, but I must have missed that this was an "erotic" book. This is not my type of book. I just looked at the number of good ratings, and I thought it would be a great book. I couldn't finish the book. When I started blushing in the 1st chapter, I knew I may not want to keep reading. Are you kidding me? Where is the story? It was almost like reading a recent LKH book, but it was worse. I really did not like the parts I finished. I would have given the book a 1 star, but I felt guilty.

With only passably decent storyline. Okay, I know it's erotica....but, sheesh! Why is it so hard to find a book with imaginative, graphic sex AND an intriguing storyline? I've only read a couple of Leigh's books, and can't figure out her popularity!! I'm annoyed with her frequency of cuss words in that it implies a deficiency in either her vocabulary or imagination. I'm also particularly annoyed with her choices of terms of endearment for her characters..."Baby" & "Babe" just DON'T have the same appeal on paper!

Breeds are humans with animal DNA in them. Callan has lion DNA. Merinus is a normal human reporter hoping to convice him to tell his story publicly. When she and he meet, the chemical and hormonal reactions are so powerful that they cannot stay away from each other for more than a few hours. They go into withdrawal if they don't repeatedly mate with each other. It's not 5 star romance writing with great plot and character development, but I don't expect that from erotica. It's entertaining for erotica.
Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: around seventeen, many are several pages long. Setting: about 2013 Washington D.C. and Sandy Hook, Ky. Copyright: 2003. Genre: erotic paranormal romance.

Tempting the Beast (Feline Breeds, Book 1)
Starting in the beginning is always best. I just love every one of her characters and since I very first read a breed story have wanted to get to the beginning. While the very first one is a short story at least this is the start of the "lion breed" storyline. Since the way these breeds were created is more science that paranormal they also fall into the science fiction catagory which is my favorite. I was hesitant at very first to read something in the erotic romance catagory but this has given me a whole new place to look for my favorite genre. So if you are a science fiction lover give these books a chance. You'll get caught up in it.
