Editor's Notes and Comments:
Product Description:
'Constipation, Withholding and Your Child' is a positive, accessible guide to dealing with the common problems of stool withholding, soiling and wetting in young children. It gives insight into the perspectives of both children and parents, enabling a clear understanding of the issue. Using friendly and informal language, the book examines the different causes of toileting problems, including the arrival of siblings and difficulties at school, and provides practical techniques and strategies to help children overcome these problems. It emphasises the importance of diet and offers advice on how to make using the toilet less frightening, the benefits of keeping a stool diary chart, and what laxatives and medications to use in different circumstances. It provides tips on how to tackle inappropriate lavatorial behaviour sensitively and addresses the issues particular to children with special needs. This book is a reassuring, informative and non-patronising guide to help children overcome toileting problems. It is useful for parents and all professionals who work with children.

This is pretty much the only book that doesn't 'blame' the parent for potty training. There is a whole different set of dynamics that come into play when your child is in the process of potty training and to put in bluntly, he/she gets stuck in this stage. For whatever the reason, sickness, eating too much cheese, a change in whatever might be going on in the child/families life, this book helps you to see if from the perspective of the child. No big psycho-babble big words, just plain, easy to read, down to earth explanations and understandings as to how and why this can become a huge issue. It's approach is very gentle and positive. I recommend this book before all others. It is written by a pediatrition as well. If you are having problems with potty training and potty fear, buy this book first.

Easy to read book, packed with information - really set our minds at ease as to how to deal with our 2-year old's withholding.
The language of the book was a bit off-putting, (occasionally too simplistic) but otherwise an excellent resource. Thank you thank you.

Having a child suffering from encopresis, I was not helped at all by this book. The information seemed outdated.
