There is a lot wrong with this one. It amazes me how "modern" superheroes are so self-involved that actually saving someone is an unexpected bonus. I don't think anyone gets saved in this one. The body count is appalling. In fact, it's counted several times just so you know bad people are killing innocents, in case you weren't sure.
Of course, in the DC realm, blood free flowing in the streets means that somebody is going to have to bring along a bigger set of hand-cuffs because the villain is a real meany. Sure, other Nightwing additions have the "I'm sorry the train wrecked but my love life is just a mess" fault, but try a Chuck Dixon story like "Year One" and " A Darker Shade of Justice". At least the character development and interaction is fun and mostly smart. They move the Nightwing story along. This one just pulls it over and gets ugly.

Okay, the very first reviewer says it doesn't fit into the story. This is almost true. DC decided that after the Crisis storyline all their heroes would have a timeskip one year into the future. So this story takes place one year after he proposed to Barbara Gordon. Some of the catch-up is given in the countdown 52 storyline or in the actual nightwing storyline. so if it seems out-of-place that's just a marketing gimmick cooked up by DC. (hey it worked, obviously!!) But getting on to the actual story ... NIGHTWING sucks, big time!!!! If you want my opinion pick up Batman, Robin, or Outsiders. Trust me, Robin you're thinking just a sidekick, right! Pick up the graphic novel 'teen titans: around the world' then tell me he's just a sidekick.

this is an ok read but I am unaware as to when this takes place. the last TPB I read nightwing was in bludhaven PD tring to make a diference, then he became mobbed up and then he was a renegade. this story puts him in new york just hanging out looking for a job. when did this take place? wasen't he going to marry barbra gorden(oricle). I just can't fit this in the timeline. was this supposed to be a TPB before all the other stuff? for this I only give it 3 stars. the story is good even though it doesn't fit the nightwing story line. and the ending didn't solve who the hitman was hired by luthor's people. also i've never seen batman act the way he did in this book. with such emotion toward dick. all in all, OK READ, NO TIE IN WITH THE OTHER TPB'S WHATSOEVER. IT'S NIGHTWING SO IT'S GOOD, BUT THE WRITER SHOULD HAVE READ THE LATEST BOOKS TO CATCH HIMSELF UP.
