Product Description:
Each year more than 3.6 million deer hunters take to fields and forests with shotguns. In some regions, shotguns have been the household guns of choice for centuries and many areas now require the use of slug guns. In Shotgunning for Deer, Dave Henderson reveals the history, selection and use of the deer hunter's shotgun and brings the reader up-to-date to the latest innovations in firearm and ammunition technology. Whether you shoot slugs or buckshot, Shotgunning for Deer will be an invaluable and authoritative resource for both novice and experienced hunters.

Shotgunning For Deer is much more than a how to book. It's both an informative and entertaining read. Dave Henderson's wry sense of humour and his sprinkling of entertaining anecdotes and comments are inserted at perfect intervals. He is much more than just an authority on the material covered in this book. He is a writer and a very good writer. He covers the subject matter precisely and economically. The information is never drawn out or boring.
Being an Arizona hunter a center-fire rifle has always been my weapon of choice for deer hunting in the open mountain terrain that I hunt. I was not aware of the advances in shotgun hunting over the past couple of decades, in both ammunition and firearms. For hunters in "shotgun only" areas this is an outstanding source of information. Complete with ballistic tables and colour photos Henderson gives us easily understandable information on all aspects of deer hunting with shotguns. There is also a lot of information on such matters as the function of chokes. I have used shotguns for bird hunting for decades and although through pattern testing that I have done I knew that chokes worked. It wasn't until I read the simple description of their function written by Henderson that I really understood "how" they worked.
This volume is only one-hundred-twenty pages long. but in those few pages there is a tremendous amount of useful information for beginners and experienced shooters alike and it is laced with just enough humour to entertain you at the same time.

Outstanding book. Since I have not hunted in a shotgun only area for about 12 years now, I did not realize how far slug guns and the ammunition have progressed. I will be hunting with a shotgun this season and I now know which gun to buy, which scope and which ammunition to try.
I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in firearms, hunting and especially hunting with a slug gun.
