Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Your Boy: Raising a Godly Son in an Ungodly World
I've seen quite a few Christian books aimed at teenage girls or for parents trying to raise Christian girls. In fact, the author has written two such titles: Your Girl (aimed at parents) and Teen Virtue (aimed at the girls themselves). However, I haven't seen many such books that focus on boys. It's almost like the world either thinks that religion and spirituality are the domain of the woman or that there are no Christian boys (like they all suddenly become born again after college or something).

Your Boy finally fills that much needed niche. This book takes on a rational tone fully realizing the immense peer and culture pressure that teenage boys are under. Nonetheless, the author makes it very clear that such expectations are not a free pass to participate in activities or act in a manner that does not fit with the boy's Christian values and morals. Moreover, the author suggests that personal responsibility and independence are the keys to a teenage boy growing into a responsible, respectable, Godly man.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Crash course on raising boys
Simply titled Your Boy, author Vicki Courtney's book takes the reader on a wild ride into the world of boys. For this fasten-your-seat-belt journey, she urges moms to do their part in rearing godly boys in an ungodly world. Courtney hammers home that boys grow up before we know it, so it's best to equip them at every stage with the tools they will need to grow into godly manhood.

From Hot Wheels to hormones, the author mentions her own trials and triumphs in bringing up two sons to be godly in a world saturated with sex. Founder of Virtuous Reality Ministries, Courtney is not bashful about revealing the moral impurities infiltrating the most unsuspecting places. "[A]s mothers, we (need to) rest in the settled peace...that our sons are always under (His) watchful eye."

A mom's sphere of influence is huge but is not meant to be polluted with manipulation, like Rebekah did with Jacob (in the Old Testament) to carry out her own schemes. Courtney offers a contrasting biblical example: "Hannah knew better than to think that Samuel belonged to her."

Perhaps the author attempted to cram too much between the covers of this book, like encouraging moms not to diminish their high calling by coddling their sons; add to that the mission to rear their boys in godliness. Toss in, yet, a crash course on surviving a sex-obsessed culture, and she may have had material for several volumes. All the more reason, perhaps, for moms busy rearing their boys to get this much for the price of one! - Cheryl A. Cecil, Christian Book Previews.com

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A MUST read for all mothers with boys!!!
I could not put this book down! Vicki Courtney gives very practical and useful advice and information that you can start using right away. Some things that called to my heart were a scripture verse that is now part of my daily prayers, checklist on how to raise nice guys, ways to respond to encourage growth, and tips on how to model a virtuous woman for my boys. Vicki includes real life stories from her own experiences with her two boys and she does so in such vivid details. This book is one you will tag, highlight, and refer to again and again. I just can't say enough good things about this book. It is a MUST READ for every mother trying to raise her boy in this UnGodly world!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great Advice
"Your Boy, Raising A Godly Son In An UnGodly World," is a must have for all mom's who love their sons. The author of this outstanding work, Vickie Courtney, is certainly well qualified and knowledgeable and you can with confidence utilize the information you will find within the pages of this book knowing you are helping your son grow into the man he should be.
Written from an evangelical Christian perspective you will feel as if you are being delivered a glass of cool water as she takes you from infancy to adulthood in your quest to raise a Godly son.
Many fears and turmoil's that you are facing or will face as your child grows are addressed in this book and you are given sound guidelines to follow to help you steer you child in the right direction.

Her suggestions are well researched and written in an easy flow making it simple to understand and implement in your own life as you continue on with your job as a mom. Some of the subjects she covers are; Offering your son advice regarding a future mate; Surviving a Sex-Obsessed Culture; and my favorite, "How not to raise a 'momma's boy." Where was this book years ago when some of the people I know could have benefited from it; including myself? Her writing style is free and easy almost bringing you right into her life as she shares stories, examples and just plain life to help you understand her points. Not only will you find yourself relating to many of the circumstances but you might just have a giggle or a tear along the way. Great book; great advice for Christians and non-Christians alike who truly would like to raise a boy to become a true man.
