Product Description:
There's a body buried behind a Mississippi farmhouse

Grace Montgomery knows who it is, and she knows why it happened. She was only thirteen the night it all went wrong. And now, like then, she has no choice but to keep her mouth shut.

Grace left the town of Stillwater thirteen years ago, trying to forget, trying to make good. As an assistant D.A. in Jackson, she's finally achieved the sucess that was supposed to change her life. But it hasn't -- so she's come back to confront her own history. Which means returning to the farmhouse now owned by her brother and facing the people of Stillwater, a number of whom suspect the truth.

Widower Kennedy Archer is one of those people. He's running for mayor and needs to stay as far away from Grace as possible. And yet…she's an enigma he can't resist. Even though her enemies are close to finding out what really happened -- and that could ruin them both.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A Great Read!
This was a very enjoyable read. Kept me glued, flipping the pages. Ms Novak has herself a new fan. I can't wait to get started on the subsequent book in the trilogy. Definitely recommend.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Still Waters Run Deep - English Proverb
Growing up in Stillwater Mississippi has never been easy for the Montgomery family. When the much loved and widowed reverend of this small town married Mrs. Montgomery and brought her and her 3 kids to live with him, the town resented it. When the reverend fueled the fire by preaching at his pulpit with veiled references to the bad wife he had, it only got worse.

Then 19 years ago the reverend went missing. There are many thoughts, reports and feelings on what happened, but most the town thinks that the Montgomery family has something to do with his disappearance. They think he was murdered, they just can't prove it. The only one who doesn't think that is the reverend's natural daughter who continued to live with the Montgomery's after her dad disappeared.

13 years ago Grace Montgomery graduated from High School and left her small town of Stillwater Mississippi behind. She made herself successful and respected, trying to wash the stain of her hometown reputation away. She comes back to try to face what happened 19 years ago so she can move on even more.

Having read Ms. Novak's Harlequin romances and loved them, I put off reading this series because, well honestly, I didn't think she could pull off the suspense and mystery. I was wrong. From the very first to the last page I was riveted. Ms. Novak created a highly emotional and suspenseful tale. There are scenes so well written and detailed that what Grace feels, you can feel. There are many twists to this story as things aren't always what they seem on the outside looking in. I finished this book and eagerly picked up the second in the series, Dead Giveaway (The Stillwater Trilogy, Book 2), it's that fabulous.

Dead Right (The Stillwater Trilogy, Book 3)

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Not terrible, not great
Wasn't terrible for a romantic suspense, but have to admit I got bored with the (unlikely) actions of the characters and resulting predictability of the plot. Skipped or skimmed lots of pages in the middle. I'm sure this won't be a popular review, but there just wasn't much 'meat' in this book. Not sure I'll get more by this author, unless this is an early novel & more current novels get solid reviews

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - One of the better books I've read in a long time
Fabulous characters...I actually found myself caring for these people. The plot was fairly different and you're sure to feel empathy for the true victims of the heinous crime. It's an age old story of "who really is the victim?" Several times throughout a character says something about believing in justice. This book makes it clear that justice is viewed differently in the town of Stillwater. Innocent until proven guilty means nothing to the town's residents who are all too eager to persecute without anything stronger than heresay as a basis. I agree with the others who have mentioned its best to have the other books ready to go as you won't be able to just 'stop' this story until you've reached the conclusion.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A deeply emotional and touching story
Grace Montgomery has not been able to accept her boyfriend's proposal of marriage because of her past and has decided to go back home in order to put her past behind her for the sake of the future.

When Grace arrives in her hometown of Stillwater, Mississippi she realizes that not a lot has changed in the thirteen years she's been gone. The town's people never accepted her or her family when Reverend Barker married her mother and moved them to this small town. When the Reverend went missing that fateful night thirteen years ago, the people of Stillwater never let them forget that they believed her family was responsible for killing him, even though a body had never been found. With Grace's return, the old rumors of murder start up again and it would seem that someone knows exactly what happened that night and is determined to bring it to light.

Grace has to decide how best to protect herself and her family, but the only way to do that is by trusting Kennedy Archer, the boy who didn't pay any attention to her in school and the man who can't seem to stay away from her now. Does Kennedy have Grace's best interests at heart or will his need to protect his children and his campaign for mayor put Grace in the line of fire?

Dead Silence is the very first in the new Stillwater, Mississippi series by Brenda Novak that is sure to be a captivating and thrilling hit with readers. In this exciting story you get introduced to the Montgomery family and the diverse people of Stillwater that provide the foundation for the series.

Dead Silence is a deeply emotional and touching story that had me desperate to learn more. Grace is a very strong woman that has been through so much in her life that you can just feel her pain as it radiates off the pages and has you hopeful that she will find some peace. Kennedy has also had his share of pain being a widower with two sons to take care of ; his love for his family shines through his pain. There seems to be a lot of darkness in the town of Stillwater, which gives it such a realistic, suspenseful feel, and will have you holding your breath waiting to see what will happen next. Brenda Novak has outdone herself with this very first exhilarating story in what is sure to be another hit series. I cannot wait to get started on the subsequent book Dead Giveaway.
