Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
New York Times bestselling authors Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands once again combine their talents to deliver their most thrilling book yet. Set in the rugged Scottish Highlands, here is the spellbinding tale of two men destined to live by night with a hunger only the blood of Outsiders can quench--and a passion only two extraordinary women can satisfy...

Embrace The Dark Side...

Cousins Heming MacNachton and Tearlach MacAdie are bound by the same blood, the same ancient curse, and now the same quest: to search out the enemies of their clan--hunters who consider them soul-less demons and intend to exterminate them. But no sooner have Heming and Tearlach begun than they are drugged, separated, and taken captive. One is brought deep into the borderlands of Scotland, the other, in the dreary depths of Northern England. Caged and weakened, only two brave women give them hope...

Brona Kerr and Lady Lucy Blytheswood are irresistibly drawn to the mysterious prisoners. Together, the women resolve to save them. In doing so, they will safeguard the clan's future and their own. For they are promised to cruel men who will do anything to possess them and the status that comes with them. Now Brona and Lucy must cross perilous terrain to fight for their lives--and for the men with whom they discover an eternal passion they never imagined...

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - If you liked eternal highlander...
Eternal highlander is the very first book in this series. This book features Hemming MacNachton (son of Efrica & Jankyn) & Tearlach MacAdie (son of Eva & Connall MacAdie). Eternal Highlander was my favorite so far, but this is a close second. I love the combination of danger, passion and humor. Once you have read this one, you will want to read all the books featuring the MacNactons & Macadies!

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - I liked it okay
I wish the stories had been longer. This is my very first vampire book to read and I liked it and will read the others too!

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - decent werewolf romance
I am not going to do a rendition of this book, I see this has already been done. This book was not bad. It was compelling, but not a keeper. I thought the passion was lacking and what passion there was was lukewarm (don't get me wrong, the lust was there, but no passion). I would not recommend this book if you want a scorching romantic read.

"Blood Feud" by Hannah Howell

Heming MacNachton and his cousin stop at an inn for something to
drink. Heming is uneasy with the way his instincts are screaming that
something is not right. It is too late, however, when he and his
cousin realize that he should have listened to his gut. It seems that
the ale Heming and Tearlach ingested was tainted and Heming falls
unconscious, only to wake up caged and cuffed like the animal his
captors think him to be.

Brona Kerr is very first cousin to the laird of Rosscurrach, the man that
has imprisoned and tortured Heming. Spying him in his cage, Brona
experiences emotions she is not sure she is supposed to have. Unsure
of why Heming is being held captive, Brona vows to find out why-only
to hear rumors of blood and animalistic behavior. No matter, however,
because once she finds out the reasons for Heming's imprisonment, she
makes the choice to free him. And free him she does.

"The Capture" by Lynsay Sands

Tearlach MacAdie and his cousin, Heming MacNachton, are traveling the
countryside looking for the hunters that prey upon their family.
Stopping at an inn for something to drink, Tearlach and Heming realize
too late that their draft of ale has been drugged. Fighting
unconsciousness to no avail, each cousin is then captured and they are
separated. Tearlach wakes up caged in a dungeon with a cellmate named
Lucy Blytheswood. A woman he finds intriguing and brave.

Lucy Blytheswood and her brother met with Wymon Carbonnel at his home
to talk about the possibility of his proposal to Lucy. When Wymon
finally proposed at the end of their visit, Lucy dreaded his reaction,
but when he seemed to take her refusal with a grain of salt, Lucy is
almost afraid to hope that his reaction means he isn't angry. Urged by
Wymon to stop for a meal, Lucy is more than ready to go home and is
getting more uneasy by the minute. Her instincts prove true when out
of the blue her brother is murdered and she is dragged away, only to
be placed in chains in the dungeon of Carbonnel Castle with the one
man she is destined to be with for the rest of her life.

I found both cousins captivating and enigmatic. While they were
vampires, and had even killed before, neither were killers. Their
attention to their lady loves was beautiful to read. Brona and Lucy
were brave and their unconditional love for Heming and Tearlach was
almost pure in that they cared for these men with every part of them
and accepted them for who they were. The love between the couples
just made me shiver.

Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands continue their tradition of finely
written historical collaborations with Highland Thirst. A must buy
for me, the combination of historical and vampire is just right in my
book and I couldn't help but completely engulf Highland Thirst in one
sitting. It should not be missed.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Two linked highland vampire novellas
This book is the follow-up to 'My Immortal Highlander', also by Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands, and it follows the same group of people, the MacNachton clan and their kin, who are vampires (although they don't tend to call themselves that). As in the former book, this book consists of two separate but related stories, this time featuring two vampires, Heming MacNachton and Tearlach MacAdie. Heming and Tearlach are searching for information about local knowledge of their clan as they fear that too many Outsiders know about the vampires. However Heming and Tearlach are drugged and then kidnapped, each being taken to a different location.

The very first story, Blood Feud by Hannah Howell, follows Heming after he wakes up and finds himself chained in a dungeon belonging to Hervey Kerr, a laird, who knows a little about the MacNachton clan and who desires the longevity that the clan appear to possess. He has Heming in his dungeon in order to get him to tell the secret of his long life; however Heming resists the torture over several days. Eventually Hervey, with Angus his sidekick, wonders whether drinking Heming's blood will have an effect as they have seen Heming drinking the blood of Peter, a local man, which clearly gave him strength and healed his wounds.

Brona Kerr is Hervey's cousin and her father was the former Laird. She is aware that someone is being held in the dungeons and eventually goes to see Heming and two other imprisoned men and decides to rescue them, along with Peter who is still alive after his blood was given to Heming. She manages to rescue Heming and the others and they hide and then travel towards Heming's kin in order to be safe. However when Brona is recaptured Heming's plans have to change and along with Colin, Peter and Fergus and some others they return to rescue her.

This is a relatively simple story with no great characterisation or plot depth - I was rather surprised how easily they escaped and found it rather fortuitous that Brona managed to overhear exactly the information she needed to know how to act, which felt like rather lazy plotting. However it was an easy read and enjoyable and those who like highland historicals with a touch of paranormal should enjoy it.

The second story, The Capture by Lynsay Sands, follows Tearlach's exploits as he, too, is rescued by a woman, Lucy Blytheswood, this time from the Englishman Wymon Carbonnel. Like Brona, Lucy seems remarkably phlegmatic about finding herself in company with a vampire and she's a strong and independent woman who seems fairly adept at helping him. Tearlach, being a full vampire, is unable to be out in the daytime and consequently their escape from Carbonnel is a little more difficult, aided by Lucy's maid Betty. Lucy's acceptance of his vampiric nature involves her actively looking for men for him to drain - quite an unusual trait in a lady. Anyway, the plot of this story is very basic with Lucy and Tearlach trying to evade Carbonnel's men who are looking for them, finding safety in a Bothy, fighting those who come to recapture them and then Lucy's journey to Court to have Carbonnel's evil deeds known.

The romance between Lucy and Tearlach is one of propinquity again - Lucy and Tearlach spend time together, thus fall in love. Tearlach's reluctance to make anything long term of their relationship is the only rough patch in the otherwise smooth romance but all is sorted out, as one would expect in a novel of this type. As with 'Blood Feud', this is a short novel and consequently doesn't go into enough depth in terms of character or plot to make it a truly satisfying read but it's enjoyable enough.
