Product Description:
Nothing matches Lora Leigh’s latest entry in the series about genetically altered Breeds with feline DNA—and the humans who awaken their desire.
Someone has been slipping the Sanctuary’s secure information to a pharmaceutical company. Now it’s up to Ria Rodriguez to pose as a clerk and uncover the leak. Yet she has no idea of the danger she’s about to encounter—or the passion she’s about to ignite in one of the greatest Breeds ever created.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of all those who wrote the positive reviews on 'Mercury's war', I have to say I was very disappointed in this latest offering from Ms. Leigh. I loved Mercury right from the very first time he appeared in the earlier breed books, but I felt that his story didn't do him justice. There was just too much repetition in the book, and the story just didn't flow for me. I felt like at the start of every chapter, I was getting re-introduced to the characters so much it felt like there was a lot of filler in the book. Unfortunately, this may have worked better as a short story maybe? And the 'hot scenes' for me were just so-so this time
My biggest gripe with this book however is the multitude of typos-I wish some more effort had been put into the editing. I've noticed this with a lot of Lora Leigh's books and it's just very annoying when the editing in a book is sloppy. Having said all that, I still gave the book 3 stars because Merc's storyline was different from the rest, and I felt he was well matched with Ria, and it made for an ok read.
I also got an anthology that was released the same day as 'Mercury's war' , 'The magical Christmas cat' just for Lora Leigh's (Noble Chavin's) story in there, and I really enjoyed that one better than Mercury's war. All the things that made mercury's war not work for me seem to be absent in Noble's story-the editing is better and the story is tighter. I remain a loyal Lora Leigh fan though, and I think her writing is getting better.

Whew! This book has got to be the HOTTEST book I have read this year! This book is so good- I'm keeping it in my personal collection. You can read the very descriptive reviews from the other readers - I will just say this - This story is hot, sexy, suspenseful and the oven mitts are definitely a requirement! Ms. Leigh knows how to deliver! Mercury and Ria are dynamic!

I've read all the breed books and wait impatiently for the subsequent installment. I don't know how Lora Leigh does it but even after all the breed books they haven't gotten stale nor has she strayed from the formula of using each book to mate a couple. The story revolves around the couple, not the other way around. I think that's become a problem with a lot of my favorite authors such as JR Ward and Christine Feehan, they've lost focus as to what kept readers coming back, a good love story. I'm not going to rehash the entire story you can read that in other reviews but in this book we get Mercury and Ria's story. Mercury is the most animalistic of the breeds in features but not in temperament until he's assigned to shadow one of the Leo's paper pushers, Ria. Ria is on a secret mission with Dane to find out who is leaking confidential information to a pharmacutical company using Sanctuary computers. The two have mega chemistry and the story will pull you right in so be prepared to read for some time. If you like an Alpha male and a strong female lead run out and buy this book. As with all Lora Leigh books this one goes on the keeper shelf!!

In Mercury's War, Leigh follows the Breeds through a new threat. Someone inside Sanctuary is selling medical information to outside sources. Ria is sent to find the leak before Pride leader Callan or BBA Director Jonas know the leak exists.
I loved the interaction between Mercury and Ria. Oozing with tension and longing, they are a truly hot couple. Also, in this book, as in Harmony's Way: A Novel of Paranormal Passion (The Breeds, Volume 2) (Harmony's Way is the 8th book in the Breeds series, not the second as shown by Amazon) Jonas shows himself to have a heart. I do hope he will eventually get a book.
There were a few things that bothered me in this story, and I'll start with Mercury shrinking two inches from previous descriptions. Not a biggie, but it bugged me. I also didn't like the woman thought to be his mate showing up so late in the story and having little to do with the storyline except disrupt the romance. It felt too contrived for me to accept her appearance. Finally, there was little information given about the spies. After all the buildup they seemed to be written as little more than an afterthought.
Even so, Mercury's book was a great read and has kept me hooked on the Breeds stories. Absolutley worth buying.

Mercury was one of most animalistic Breeds ever created. He was stronger, had better senses and was one of the best soldiers in the labs until one day when he went into "feral displacement" and killed people when he thought he lost his mate. Mercury was put on a drug program that pushed his animal side deep inside him until he barely had extra abilites but he survived. As part of his job as a Breed enforcer for Sactuary, Mercury is assigned to protect Gloria "Ria" Rodriguez while she does some short term work at Sanctuary. He is being watched closely for a return of feral displacement, which is a problem because when the animal inside him senses Ria it begins to wake up.
Ria Rodriguez is supposed to be at Sanctuary reviewing the spending of funds donated by the Leo. She is actually there to figure out who is selling information about the mating heat and prolonged lifetimes that occur between mated pairs. Ria dresses as a dowdy woman, hiding herself from the world because she thinks if she doesn't attract attention she won't be hurt and she can do her job better. Mercury sees right through her disguise to the more flashy, strong woman inside.
The attraction between Mercury and Ria is instant and powerful but Ria refuses to give into it because she knows Mercury's mate has died so she would always be his second choice. The physical heat between them eventually boils over and they have some insanely hot love scenes. Mercury decides that she is the mate of his heart, no matter that the signs of mating heat are not there despite how much he wishes they were.
Just when Mercury and Ria start to get together, his supposedly dead mate comes back. The consequences of this explode the story, causing Mercury's animal to finally emerge. Mercury is unbelievably sexy once he is finally the powerful Lion Breed he was supposed to be. Secrets that Ria had hidden come alive as well, allowing her to be strong enough to fight for what she wants - and what she wants is Mercury. The girl fight scene at the end was great, I love how Ria took care of the problem herself and didn't hide behind Mercury.
Mercury and Ria's story is now one of my favorite Breed books. The physical heat between them was scorching plus I really felt that they loved each other and belonged together. I enjoyed finding more out about the Leo, Dane and of course Jonas who is really growing on me. Mercury's War is too good to miss, I highly recommend reading this story and the other Breed books.
