Editor's Notes and Comments:
Product Description:
The benchmark text for the syllabus organized by technology (a week on databases, a week on networks, a week on systems development, etc.) taught from a managerial perspective. OBrien defines technology and then explains how companies use the technology to improve performance. Real world cases finalize the explanation.

The chapters cover all areas necessary to get a comprehensive understanding of MIS and related technologies. There are real world case studies provided in each chapter to give readers an insight into actual applications and quantify the reading. The historic background and foundation concepts provided are substantial and well presented. These are definitely plus points for this book.
However, I find that the writing is extremely verbose and highly repetitive. A concept that can be explained in a few simple sentences is stretched to paragraphs of elaborate and winding set of sentences. Good luck sifting through them. Also often times, definitions and descriptions are repeated over chapters with no new additional information presented. This makes the reading drab and just not enjoyable.
This happened to a prescribed text for a graduate level class I am taking. Many other students have the same opinion with regards to this text and have requested our professor & graduate school to change to a different text for the coming semester.

Are any textbooks really worth what they charge? Not really -
However, this is a good book and covers many (almost) up to date concepts. In technology, I am guessing for a hard cover book, the updated materials are as close as you can get.
