Product Description:

Beautiful Grace Paget has no reason not to believe these words. After all, she was kidnapped, spirited away to a remote country manor, and told she is to grant this man his every desire . . . or lose her life. But Grace is no common trollop. So she risks everything to save her virtue by planning a daring escape, even though she finds herself tempted by this handsome man. There is something in his eyes that makes her wonder if he is as dangerous as he would have her believe.

Sheene knew nothing of the plan to bring him this woman. Locked up as a prisoner, called 'mad' by all of the world, he will do anything to reclaim his life, and Grace's sensuous beauty has distracted him from his goals. And although he finds her irresistible, he is horrified to hold her against her will. Now, together, they must both revolt against the strange set of circumstances that have forced them together—for only then will Grace truly surrender to him . . . forever.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - Hero as Victim is Not Very Interesting
The hero of Untouched, Lord Matthew Sheene, is a prisoner in a gilded cage. He's been declared "mad" by doctors who were bribed by an evil uncle, and kept away from society and his rightful inheritance since he was fourteen years old. The book opens when he is twenty-five years old. For some reason, never fully explained, his uncle has decided that it will keep the prisoner docile and under his power if a woman is added to the hero's exile. So the evil uncle has two minions capture who they think is a prostitute and bring her to Matthew's heavily-guarded hideaway. Of course, it's a case of mistaken identity, and the heroine, Grace, is a well-mannered widow and the disinherited daughter of an earl.

Most of the novel deals with the slow unfolding of the love affair between Matthew and Grace, and, of course, the way they plot to escape the prison they are in.

The plot is interesting, and the author is a good writer. I felt that these were three-dimensional characters and I could buy into the attraction and growing love between them. But as a romance novel, this book left me cold. I just cannot be turned on by a hero who is a victim for all but ten pages of the book. The sickening abuse that the hero had suffered, and continued to suffer, made him seem pitiable rather than sexy. Perhaps it was in the way the author presented him. Certainly I have read other romance novels where the hero had suffered degradation and even torture, but seemed like a strong survivor. I never got that vibe from Matthew. He just needed rescuing, and that made him weak as a hero.

The author tried to pull Matthew into hero mode at the end of the book, but by then it was too late for me to see him as anything but pathetic. This book does not present a romantic hero. Hero as victim is a hard sell.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - A Quick Read.....
...but maybe that's because I was so excited to finish it!

I was excited to read a book by a new author...now I know why I stick to the "sure things". This book had incredible sensuality, but that's about it. Without a relationship that I care about, the sensuality does NOTHING for me. I was unaffected by really everything in this book. The torture of the hero that would usually "tie" me to the hero forever was read more like one would read the obituary of an unknown person. I didn't really care, and I am usually a "caring-type" reader. Grace just bugged me, and I read the ending feeling like I was supposed to care, wanting to care, but I just....didn't.

With all the 5 star reviews, I'm wondering if I missed something. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I didn't!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Unbelievably untouched
I am not going to go into a rendition, that has been done and quite well. I really enjoyed this book. It was touching, with scorching passion and deep longing. The characters were charming and the story was unique and very interesting. I really recommend this book for the classical romance fans. I have read the book twice and enjoyed it both times. This is a keeper.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great love/human story
I agree with reviewers who have mentioned the holes in the plot. I agree that the set-up for this book is anything but romantic. I've had this book on my TBR shelf since it came out, but couldn't bring myself to pick it up.

Why the five stars? Because I absolutely loved the love story. It has been very long time since I read a book that grabbed me and held on the way this one did. I couldn't wait to see how it would end yet I was sad when I did reach the ending. I wanted to keep follwing these characters.

Anna Campbell can certainly write an emotionally gripping tale. I look forward to reading future books by her.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Wonderfully original
I absolutely loved this book until the last 50 or so pages. It would have rated five stars for me but because the author suddenly had one of her leads act totally out of character I am reducing this book to a 4 star.

The plot of this novel is very original. Grace Paget is kidnapped and taken into the home of Lord Matthew Sheene. Home is not really the right term; his little estate is really a prison. He suffered what sounds like a grand mal seizure when he had a high fever as a child and his evil uncle has him locked away so he can control all of his wealth.

In fact Matthew's uncle Lord John is behind Grace's kidnapping. Earlier Mathew had escaped his home and two jailers. Lord John believes a woman will keep his nephew occupied and thereby keeping him from planning another escape. Lord John cannot kill Matthew as there is another person ahead of him in line for the title. With Matthew alive, he has control of the estate and money.

At first, Matthew believes Grace to be a doxy and is determined to resist her. Grace is a recent widow to an older husband and cannot believe she has been thrown into this situation. Lord John gives her an ultimatum; he will kill her if she does not seduce his nephew. Grace fears for her life but she is very attracted to Mathew. He has never even kissed a woman since he has been declared insane and has lived on the remote estate since he was eleven. Grace in her own way is innocent because she had a husband who never cared for her own needs. Grace and Matthew's love scenes are touching and romantic. They are totally filled with self discovery.

Matthew falls in love very fast and his tender heart is sweet and passionate. Grace is the same age as Matthew and for the very first time really falls in love. However, the specter of Lord John is always present and Matthew realizes Grace must escape without him.

As stated earlier the last fifty pages of the book have Grace acting contrary to her loving nature. Matthew is his sweet self but Grace becomes a bit patronizing, a I-know-what's-best-for-you. Type. She totally discounts Matthew's feelings and opinions. How annoying. Still for the most part the love scenes between these two unfold beautifully.
