On the trail of fortune . . .
Adventurous Josephine Hale is determined to live up to her scandalous heritage. With half of a crumbling treasure map that belonged to her grandfather, the legendary pirate, in her possession, the bold and beautiful lady is half-way to a fortune. Unfortunately, the remainder of the map belongs to Stephen Doubleday, Earl of Westman, her family's sworn enemy—and Josie will do anything to get her hands on it . . . even if it means seducing the handsome rogue.
And a passion beyond dreams
Utterly destitute, Stephen never dreamed a fairy tale about pirate's treasure would turn out to be true—bringing him a possible fortune and a passionate lover. But will joining in this wild, impetuous beauty's perilous undertaking be the biggest mistake of his life? Or will it lead Stephen and Josie to a treasure far more precious than pirate gold—a fiery and forever love?

I really liked the plot of this story, as well as the hero and the cousins in their group - unwavering support of one another. The story progressed well and was an easy read. There were several grammatical errors - editors not so great in this one. Nevertheless, a nice story...not a whole lot of emotional depth but, once again, a good read and worth the time. I will buy more books from this author.

Talk about a different type of Romance!!!! After reading about simpering misses, virginally white attired debutants, it was so refreshing to read Shana Galen's GOOD GROOM HUNTING. It is an absolute treat and one of the most delightful romance novels I have read in while! Galen's style is fresh and care-free. Her writing prose is direct, steamy and invigorating.
Enter Josephine Hale - Josie. A tom boy and young woman completely in charge of her own destiny. This is another installment to the "Misadventures in Matrimony" series, with the very first book being NO MAN'S BRIDE (which I read out of sequence). Four cousin's strike a pact when they are 10 years old: never two marry and hence The Spinster's Club is born. Josephine has stumbled across her grandfather's treasure map. There have been hints of treasure in the Hale family for generations with everyone believing its a myth. Josie is all excited at the prospect of having found the map and finding the treasure - that way she will be rich and independent and that will remove her from her mother's manipulative clutches and make her a truly independent woman. However - she has run into a slight complication - the map has been torn in two and she suspects that the other half is with her neighbor, Stephen Doubleday, Earl of Westman. Both of their grandfathers were privateer/pirates and are now dead. Josie's grandfather was accused of murdering his best friend and partner, who was Westman's grandfather, hence the families have been enemies since then.
Bold you please Josie clambers out of her bedroom window one night and into Westman's library. She makes Westman a proposition - since she has half of the ap - he needs to help her find the other half and they can become partners in equal share - withholding nothing from each other. Oh, I forgot to mention, Josie without mincing her words asks Stephen that she wants to shag him anytime she wants as she really doesn't want to get married and being independent she feels that she is free to choose any lover she wants!
Stephen is flabbergasted by the impudent and saucy mouthed miss. Is he to believe the crazy notions of a young and naïve girl sprouting all kinds of nonsense about a buried treasure and a map? Stephen has known about the fabled treasure all his life. And he doesn't believe a word of it. He has now stepped into the role as head of the family. His philandering and spendthrift ways have bankrupted the family's and it is now in his power to make things right. His own mother refuses to see him labeling him a good-for-nothing degenerate and a wastrel. After he dispatches Josie out of his house that night - he starts ruminating on the information. Maybe there is a hint of truth to the whole treasure business.. what if it is true? If there is a treasure - his family will not be destitute and he will be back in their good graces... the more he thinks about it the more he wants to believe in it.
What ensues from their very first meeting is a rollercoaster ride of a novel. You find yourself at the edge of your seat, as they spar and hunt for the treasure together.. one clue leads to another and then a set of weird accidents start happening that puts them both in danger... Who else knows of the treasure and who is after them? Their battle of wills is beautifully told - Josie gives Stephen a good run for his money and she finally seduces him in a very torrid and sexy scene that will have you fanning yourself as you are reading!! Josie is bold and sexual - enjoying all aspects of the carnal act between them. Their sparring is witty and funny - Josie gives as good as she gets and is in every way Stephen's equal.
So if you want a rollercoaster ride and a fabulously, super sexy, steamy story - with two great characters, great sex and great dialogue - don't pick this one as you will be up all night reading! ENJOY!!!!! WHAT A GREAT BOOK!!

Shana has again created a unique pair of characters for her second in a series about four cousins who swear never to get married.
Her heroine, Josephine Hale, is a lady ahead of her time. She's independent, impetuous and doesn't care what society thinks. Josie wants the other half of her family's treasure map and she doesn't care if she has to seduce the Earl of Westman, her family's sworn enemy, to get it. She bets her reputation that if she can find a treasure that most people consider a myth, that society will overlook her outrageous behavior.
Stephen Doubleday, a reformed rake trying to re-establish the Westman family fortune he gambled away in his youth, has his own plans for the treasure. Resisting Josie's advances is a test he never thought to have to endure and one he doesn't really want to pass. But he and Josie aren't the only ones searching for the treasure; and their opponents are not above eliminating the competition permanently.
Join Shana as she spins an entertaining tale of pirates, treasure, betrayal and trust. Who will win the treasure? And what is the true treasure--gold, gems or love?

I feel those two words describe the heroine, Josephine, of Good Groom Hunting. She is 18 in this book while the hero is a much older, in years and wisdom, 32. I don't like this much of an age difference in the books I read, but if the young lady has a maturity beyond her years, it's not so bad. That said, I felt that Josie didn't demonstrate that much maturity. She decided that she needed Stephen to help her find her grandfather's pirate treasure and she wanted him for a lover and she wanted him now. I could almost picture her stamping her foot as she said it. That's how it seemed. She looked out the window and saw him subsequent door and before you know it, she was climbing in his window. The book went downhill from there. The whole way through, I just felt she seemed really impetuous and childish. I couldn't imagine that she wouldn't drive him nuts after awhile.
I will admit I am not a writer and my hat is off to all authors. However, that doesn't mean everyone will like everything certain authors write. I read Ms. Galen's very first book and recall that it wasn't a favorite of mine. This book got such glowing reviews here that I picked it up at my local used book store. I didn't care for this one either because of Josie. I felt there was too much of an age difference and she acted too young. There is a fine line in books between heroines who are feisty and plucky and impetuous and irritating. For me, Josie was the latter. The cover of the book was not one of my favorites either. The guy, to me, looks so much bigger than the girl on the cover. That just sort of reinforces the age difference. I'm afraid that for me and Ms. Galen this is the end of the road. I'm afraid the appeal of her books is lost on me.

Josephine (Josie) Hale is determined never to be married and not just because she made a young girl's pact as a member of the Spinster's Club. She wants to be a pirate. Well, not a true pirate really. She just wants to claim the treasure her grandfather told her he'd hidden back when he'd been a pirate so she can live independently, without the emcumbrances of marriage. The only problem is that she only has half of the treasure map. The other half is in the possession of Stephen Doubleday, whose family is the sworn enemy of the Hale family. How far will Josie go to acquire the treasure map?
Stephen Doubleday has a well-earned reputation of a rake. It's at his hands that his family has lost everything - their good name and their fortune. After the death of his brother and father, Stephen returns home to try to restore all he has cost his family. He's never believed the stories of maps and treasures but can he afford not to listen when Josie climbs through his library window and offers him half, if he'll help her find the treasure?
As Stephen and Josie set out on their adventure, someone seems to be dogging their every move, trying to stop them from finding the treasure. The game turns deadly at the same time the couple's desire for each other grows, and soon they must decide where the real treasure lies. At an "X" on the map, or in their hearts, where true love might exist after all?
Once again, Ms. Galen has created characters that are very likeable. The story was fun and fresh - not your standard, predictable pirate tale.
I highly recommend it.
