Product Description:
New author Shana Galen's latest novel has it all. Divided loyalties. Espionage. Intrigue. And a stiff cravat.
American Charlotte Burton has one last chance to restore her family business and repair the family's pride. At the height of the War of 1812, she's risked the conflict-ridden seas to plead for help from an old family friend. But the reunion is interrupted when a sinfully handsome British spy takes her prisoner.
Freddie Dewhurst - hero, unapologetic dandy, and spy. Freddie's one goal is to end the career of an American accused of stealing secret British codes and selling them to the French. But Freddie's quest is interrupted by one red-haired American hellion.
With the security of England at stake, Freddie and Charlotte devise a daring plan that will take them into the highest echelons of power, the farthest limits of passion, and lead to an all out engagement of war. But there's more than one way to engage an enemy!

Having read "When Dashing Met Danger" and meeting Freddie, I couldn't wait for his story. He promised to be amusing with a bit of an edge, despite his truly unfortunate name and dandy persona.
I went into this book having high expectations brought on by my enjoyment of "Dashing". Unfortunately, the book fell flat for me. Their romance and attraction came out of nowhere it seemed. I didn't feel like the characters got to know one another, nor did I feel like I got to know the characters. I was left wondering why the Freddie, who was so lovely in "Dashing", was lacking personality in this book. And how he could ever fall in love with Charlotte was beyond me. Not because she was an unfashionable American and he a dandy, but because she was an annoying shrew who had little to recommend her, outside of her blue hair.
The story was choppy at best, and it didn't manage to keep my attention for long. During their very very first encounter, Freddie asks if Addy is Charlotte's slave and if she receives wages, to which she replies that Addy is not paid. He expresses disgust for the southern American institution of slavery, and never again is it mentioned! Was Addy at one time a slave? No clue. Did Charlotte's family have any slaves? Don't know.
The "mystery" fell to the wayside so that the characters could grow and fall in love, yet they seemed like strangers to me (except in bed), even in the end. An ending which was hastily done and completely anticlimactic, mind you.
I recommend giving Shana Galen a try, just not this particular work.

I enjoyed Pride and Petticoats but to read about a spy named Freddie nearly ruined it for me. I mean, Freddie is the nice kid subsequent door, the one that takes your dog out when you're sick and that you totally ignore the rest of the year, not a hardened, tough spy! In order to hide his profession as a spy, Freddie even dresses like a dandy, wearing flamboyant clothes and colours and keeps his gold hair fashionably long. The images that these descriptions along with the name above created in my mind, made him unattractive to me and more of a bufoon than the author probably intended.
The story beside this was good, funny, dialogues witty, the mystery not bad, but the fact that I was dismissive of the main hero, ruined the feeling for me. Not bad or a waste of time and with a decent hero I would probably rate it with at least 4 stars.

This is, without a doubt, bar none, the worst book I have ever read. I felt foolish and angry at myself when it was all over. The author did not bother with silly things like character development or basic research(I believe a baron is properly addressed as "Sir", not "Lord"). This book does not have a single thing to recommend it. Had this been the very first romance novel I had ever read, it would have been the last.
Truly, truly terrible.

It's a classic love story. The main characters meet during the war. They should be enemies. English Lord hold dislike toward anything or anyone American. Yet this stunning American is somehow different... Love, danger, jealousy, adventure. This book has it all. Shana Galen leads her readers on the path of mind blowing romance. Very heart warming!

Ms. Galen's second effort is just as charming and entertaining as her very first "When Dashing Met Danger." Not only do we get to visit with old friends once again...we are introduced to new ones with a fresh new romance to entertain us.
Charlotte is desperate. She has lost her father and brother to the British and their miserable war. If only her brother and father had not been forced to try to rush the blockade...but they did and now she has lost everything. Not knowing where to turn, she and her faithful maid Addy sail for England and hopefully her brother's childhood friend Cade Pettigru. She has no idea she's about to have to face her prejudice and be tested by the one man that not only fires her temper...but her passions as well. Will she be able to see Freddie for the man he is or will she let her preconceived ideas get in the way of a love only she can imagine?
Lord Freddie Dewhurst is not who he seems and he relies on this for he is a spy for the British government. His role as a Pink of the Ton is half contrived half his true self. When he has to pose as a married man to a Yankee upstart he questions whether he has the skills to pull it off. Charlotte gets his temper up as no one ever has! She also makes him feel things he never thought possible. Will a war between countries and a prejudice for two countries powerful enough to prevent these two strong people from finding a love that's true?
This was a very entertaining read. Ms. Galen has taken a very timely issue of nationality prejudice and worked it into a story that will capture the reader's attention. We get a chance to visit with Lucia and her Alex (When Dashing Met Danger) once again. This was a very romantic read and Ms. Galen has captured the time period and it's issues in a very endearing way.
