Editor's Notes and Comments:
Product Description:
A combination of Vince Flynn and Richard Marcinko, The Home Team series features a group of former Special Forces operators who have become the most lethal weapon in the war on terror––a war that is now fought on our own soil.
The story of one soldier pushed too far. When a scandal and cover–up within the service ended his career as a Navy SEAL, Ted 'Grim' Reaper returned to his home. But when drug dealing terrorists intrude on his early retirement and threaten his family, he bands together with a group of special forces operators to show the dealers the true meaning of retribution. Skilled in all forms of combat, weapons, explosives, special equipment, and tactics, the group of soldiers is unchecked by any government agency, unsupervised by any congressional committee, and fully prepared to do what must be done to win their own private war at any cost.

This book details the characters and gear inside on a level I did not expect to find entertaining, I was wrong. This book reads like a movie or tv pilot that explodes in your hands. It does more than hit you over the head with action, it talks straight to you on a level you will understand and enjoy. These books have continued to satisfy while keeping my hunger alive for the subsequent story!

I really enjoy Mr. Chalker's stories. His characters kind of seem real and their sense of humour in the face of danger makes for fun reading. I can lose myself in his books and just enjoy the story. I really do enjoy this character and storyline.

I was looking forward to this book since one of the co-authors was a former Navy Seal. However,in my view, the story got bogged down with endless detail on weapons and gear to be used on the mission. I read this for thrills and realistic excitement. Not to be an ordnance planner and supplier. The basic plot was fine. U.S. Navy Seal Chief Ted Reaper had been cashiered from the Seals for disobeying orders and hitting a superior officer while in Bosnia. Even though that officer turned out to be a rogue CIA turncoat who had thrown in with the enemy. Fast forward and that former officer had joined forces with Muslim terrorists in Michigan who have some very evil plans to poison Lake Michigan and the Chicago water supply. In the meantime, Reaper is working at a very high tech gunshop. The terrorists, who also deal in drugs, kidnap Reaper's wife and son hoping to coerce him into providing them with sophisticated weaponry. Reaper organizes a raid on their base which is on an island in Lake Michigan. Plenty of thrills. But, all in all, a slower read than it could have been. Could have benefited from tighter editing.

Great book, I read Chalker's nonfiction, so I was already a fan, but this series is excellent....I'm a definite fan of the home team!!!

Chief Chalker is one of the few who can say he's actually been there/done that when it comes to Special Operations. As is common these days Chalker follows up his autobiographies with a fictional series about Navy SEAL Chief Reaper. While the overall plot of Undeclared War isn't amazing (the only reason I couldn't award 5 stars) the fast paced action, stunning realism, and interesting characters makes this a hit. The second book in the series, Hostile Borders, is also highly recommended.
