The feverish Hellboy II: The Golden Army is a very busy sequel that might have looked unhinged in the hands of a less visionary director than Guillermo del Toro. Ron Perlman returns as Hellboy, aka 'Red,' the Dark Horse Comics demon-hero with roots in the mythical world but personal ties in the human realm. Still working, as he was in Hellboy, for a secret department of the federal government that deals (as in 'Men In Black') with forces of the fantastic, Red and his colleagues take on a royal elf (Luke Goss) determined to smash a longtime truce between mankind and the forces of magic. Meanwhile, Red's relationship with girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair), who can burst into flames at will, is going through a rocky stage observed by Red's fishy friend Abe (Doug Jones), himself struck by love in this film. Del Toro brilliantly integrates the ordinary and extraordinary, diving into an extended scene set in a troll market barely hidden behind the façade of typical city streets. He also unleashes a forest monster that devastates an urban neighborhood, but then--interestingly--brings a luminous beauty to the same area as the creature (an 'elemental') succumbs to a terrible death. Del Toro's art direction proves masterful, too, in a climactic battle set in a clockworks-like stronghold tucked away in rugged Irish landscape. But it's really the juxtaposition of visual marvels with not-so-unusual relationship issues that gives Hellboy II a certain jaunty appeal hard to find in other superhero movies. --Tom Keogh

Movie being slightly not as good as the first, this blu ray pack more than makes up for it. Love the little golden army figure and the book!
COMPLETELY worth the little extra

This is a great movie with plenty of action, and attention to detail. THe Blue-ray version is incredible, showcasing the sharpness of the movie shooting sets as well as the characters. Also, the extras are super, especially the tour of the movie sets. The collector's set is a fan must have!

If you enjoyed the very first installment of Hellboy, I am pretty sure you will really enjoy the sequel. It did not fall far from the tree for part 2. It's a really fun movie with tons of special effects and many fast paced action scenes with plenty of shootouts and explosions to keep you interested from start to finish. The same cast returns as well as the director Del Toro. Thank god!
The picure quality is easily one of the best. If one thing can be said about Blu-Ray, it has shown the sci-fi genre just how clean a movie can look. Movies that are filled with CGI effects really stand out in high defintion. I have around 260 Blu titles so far, and this one is one of the best. Super, super clean and crisp. Very sharp picture showing every little detail in each and every frame. The colors are vivid and super bright. This movie uses colors very well. The deatil of Hellboy himself is amazing. The blacks are very dark, the whites are super clean and do not bloom. The fleshtones are right on for the humans in the movie! LOL Tons of shootouts and explosions look fantastic on a 1080P monitor if you have one. All of the characters in the movie look amazing and have tons of detail.
The sound is also a 5 star effort. Super loud and clean soundtrack. As I said before....there are lots of action scenes with many explosions and shootouts which will give your home theater a chance to show it's stuff. Cant do much better than this one for sound. There are many extras on the disks themselves. You get a little statue, a booklet and a little poster also. Im not really into that stuff to much. If your a fan....you may enjoy these little extras. Overall a great looking and sounding movie. Worth the money if your a sci-fi lover. I hope you enjoy this title as much as I did!
