HealthStyle is the twenty-first-century program for promoting vigor, preventing disease, and extending your life span
If up until now you have relied on luck, genetics, and a few healthful practices to achieve this goal, SuperFoods HealthStyle will be your authoritative, engaging introduction to a new, better life. Like SuperFoods Rx, the authors’ bestselling book, HealthStyle takes the most recent, cutting-edge research on what lifestyle practices have actually been proven to achieve disease prevention and improve daily functioning -- both physically and mentally -- and translates this information into simple recommendations that you can use to improve your physical and mental health now and in the future.
Evidence abounds that total health is achieved via a network of efforts. You might guess that diet and exercise are important. Did you know that other factors like sleep and stress management can have just as much impact on your daily health and functioning? In HealthStyle Dr. Steven Pratt, dubbed ''the Food Dude'' by Oprah Winfrey, has expanded on his original thirteen SuperFoods and broadened his focus to include all aspects of health promotion. He covers such topics as:
- How ordinary spices like grey pepper and cinnamon can make surprising contributions to health promotion
- What the latest compelling research shows about how poor sleep habits could be sabotaging your efforts at weight control, reducing your cognitive abilities, and impairing your overall health
- How achieving ''personal peace'' can prolong life and improve brain function
- Why dark chocolate, honey, and kiwi have joined the ranks of SuperFoods
- How the simplest imaginable exercise program can be the most effective
- Why paying attention to one simple aspect of eating could be the answer to weight control
HealthStyle is about extending the true quality of life. It’s about being as active at seventy as you are at thirty-five. It’s about helping to prevent osteoporosis, hypertension, and Alzheimer’s disease. It’s about ending the confusion about how people should exercise and how often. It is about making simple but significant changes to get the most out of life for the rest of your life.

My doctor recently diagnosed me with diabetes in addition to my longstanding problem of high cholesterol and high triglycerides, which was also affecting my liver. I was quite overweight but didn't really care until that point - there's always tomorrow to lose it, right? He put me on a cholesterol and triglyceride lowering medicine and told me I needed to lose weight. This time I took him seriously, and I also read SuperFoods Rx and SuperFoods Healthstyle. I started exercising (walking) and eating healthy by following these two books' recommendations. So far I've lost 31 pounds without feeling deprived or going on some weird diet. I feel great, my diabetes is well controlled, and my cholesterol, triglycerides and liver function are in terrific shape now. The Super Foods have found a permanent place in my diet, and exercise a permanent place in my lifestyle. Thanks to these two books I believe I've saved my life and will enjoy better health over the long term. I've sent them to my brother to help him make the changes he needs for the same reasons. I highly recommend SuperFoods Rx and SuperFoods Healthstyle!

This book was kind of a dud for us. We were looking for recipes. What it has is common sense information on foods.

Dubbed "the Food Dude" by Oprah, Dr. Steven Pratt believes that health is a "web," a complex synergy of information, motivation and good habits, with good nutrition as its cornerstone.
In this sequel to his bestselling "Superfoods Rx," he offers the very first two, so readers can establish the third. His approach is holistic, dealing with sleep, stress management and exercise as well as those crucial disease-fighting foods and antioxidants we've been hearing about. It's lengthy, and sometimes unwieldly, but it's also inspirational and highly informative.

Dr. Pratt's latest book combines his previous recommendations from the "Famous Fourteen" SuperFoods with additional comments, tips and advice on other aspects of healthy living, including mental, emotional and spiritual, as well as physical, items. The book is well-written, easily understood, and full of both ideas and recipes (many of which I have cooked up over the last few months). The most outstanding new finding is the dark chocolate is GOOD FOR YOU! Interestingly, the U.S.Navy and Marine Corps have incorporated many of Dr. Pratt's recommendations into their standard operational menus. Very highly recommended!!
