Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Islamic supremacism, European cultural disaggregation, American vacillation, and Israeli timidity and confusion. These are the main social contexts that inform political and strategic developments of global and national affairs in our times. In her biweekly commentaries, Caroline B. Glick, the formidable Jerusalem Post columnist, highlights these underlying trends while analyzing events as they unfold both globally and in Israel. This extraordinary collection of her probing and eloquent work is a must read for all who care about winning the war against the multifarious forces of global jihad.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A SUPERB EFFORT BY A BRILLIANT WRITER
Israel is America's canary in the coal mine. No one does a better job of demonstrating this canary's importance to World Peace, in general, and to America's well being, in particular - and to the danger to both should this canary be extinguished. Caroline Glick is both brilliant and acutely perceptive. She also has a writing style that is easy to read, which makes the depth of her thinking and the accuracy of her observations that much more readily available to her readers. Glick is one of my favorite observers of the turnoil in the Middle East, whose problems have been made to appear much more complex than they really are. The only real question - which most try to obscure, and which Ms. Glick places in relief - is Does Israel Have the Right To Exist? On a scale of 5 stars, Ms. Glick is a 10-star author with a 20-star mind. KEN ELIASBERG

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - An Excellent examination
This exciting and mesmerizing read is a represents a collection of writings spanning the years 2002 to 2007 analyzing Israel, the global Jihad, Europe, America and the Middle East. These were originally columns written by Caroline Glick, a veteran commentator on Israel who served in the IDF, as an advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and reported on the Iraq war. She provides excellent and jarring critiques of many of the issues facing Israel and the West today. Her viewpoints are both original and incisive.

The writings are divided into ten themes including the Iranian threat, the Islamist threat to the world, the Iraq war and Disengagement. The critiques provided offer a very rich collection of assaults on the kinds of opinion that are either mainstream or `right minded'. Fania Oz-Salzberger of Haifa University is taken to task for her comparison of the situation of Muslims in Europe yesterday with the situation of Jews in Europe in the 1930s. The article notes that "drawing parallels between the subjugation and genocide of European Jewry during the Holocaust and the treatment of European Muslims yesterday runs dangerously close to Holocaust denial." Another article once again sheds light on the Kastner affair and shows that any endeavor to rehabilitate his name (Kastner was a Hungarian Jew who saved the lives of 1,600 Jews but did not warn other Jews of their fate and saved people due to family and financial connections) constitutes an assault on history. Another excellent article dares to examine the media's role in creating various `blood libels' to implicate Israel and the U.S in `war crimes'. Glick is at her best excoriating `human rights' organizations such as Hamoked and Machsom Watch for their double standard of only caring for Palestinian Human Rights and never proving any help to Israeli victims, who also deserve human rights. In one the best and perhaps controversial articles the reader is shown how Europe has turned the Holocaust into a fetish, building memorials while working to destroy the present Jewish state.

Collections of published essays tend to make weak reading. They often lack context since they were originally published just after an event and thus provide no historical view and assume the reader recalls the event, which at the time seemed important. Although this collection suffers slightly from this it makes up for it due to the level of intelligence and depth displayed in the writings and it serves as an important testament to the threats to Israel that exist today.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A Warning to the Western World
Caroline Glick realizes that we live in dangerous time. Sadly, many of our leaders and fellow citizens underestimate the threat of Islamic nihilism. Burying our heads into the sand will supposedly make the problem disappear. The intellectual virus of political correctness further hinders our ability to defeat our foes. Indeed, we are shackled warriors. Glick's warnings must not go unheeded. There may no be too much time left. This book is very important. You should obtain a copy as soon as possible.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A must-read for those who want to understand what's really at stake for Israel and the West in the battle against global terror
I completely agree with Shalom Freedman's assessment - Caroline B. Glick's "Shackled Warrior: Israel and the Global Jihad" is required reading for anyone genuinely interested in a deeper understanding of what is at stake for Israel and the West in the fight against Global Terrorism. Ms. Glick, an incisive and perceptive writer, provides readers with a depth of analysis that most "experts" on the subject of the Arab-Israeli conflict never approach. Glick's writings challenge commonly-held misperceptions about the nature and status of the conflict(s) between Israel and her enemies, yet also raise important questions about Israel's relationship with allies such as the United States, and our places on the world stage. Every word of her writing "tells." I have found no author better informed on the subject than Caroline Glick, and quite possibly no volume better at analyzing the issues than "Shackled Warrior," a highly-readable collection of her work that is difficult to set aside. Five stars is not enough - highest recommendation.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Powerfully insightful analysis of Israel's security situation
Caroline Glick has for the past several years written a regular column for 'The Jerusalem Post'. This book is a collection of those columns organized in ten chapters: 1) The War Against Israel 2) The War Against the Free World 3) Israel Alone 4) The Threat of Destruction 5) Israel's Suicide Attempt 6) The Battle for Hearts and Minds 7) Contemporary Thought Police 8) European Betrayal 9) An Israeli in Iraq 10) A Light unto the Nations.
Glick is an incisive, well- informed original and tough writer. Her deep concern is for the security of Israel, and she has an extra- sensitive antenna in detecting dangers and threats. As a Harvard educated native of the United States who served for several years in the Israeli Defense Forces she has a deep knowledge of the political and military systems of both the United States and Israel and the relations between them. While in one sense this book focuses on Israeli security questions it is a must read for anyone who cares about the free world's fight against Terror.
As someone who has lived in Israel for many years I regard myself as fairly knowledgable about the Israeli - Arab conflict. But reading this work I learned and understood much I had not before.
Glick shows how mistaken the Bush strategy and execution has been in the War Against Terror. Embedded with the U.S. forces in Iraq at the beginning of its effort to depose Saddam Hussein she has followed the struggling American effort there closely. She here repeatedly writes about the Americans half- hearted war on Terror,in which they excluded as target a major force of Terror, the Palestinians. She shows how Israel and the United States have played the wrong game in believing withdrawal and concessions would lead to peace. She writes with anger and scorn at the withdrawals from Lebanon and Gaza and how they brought neither Peace nor Security to Israel. She knows the Palestinian and Arab propaganda tactics inside out and exposes the way the Media repeatedly and perhaps in some cases willingly, falls for them. She is not at all reluctant to criticize Israeli leaders who have kept alive a phony peace partner, Abbas' PA instead of trying to make the best of the truth that the Palestinians at this stage are not ready for peace. She outlines clearly the mistakes made in the Lebanon War of summer 2006 and has harsh words for the phony accomplishments the Olmert government claimed afterwards. Glick is above all a truthseeker and truth- teller and the Truth she tells is often not very pleasant for Israelis themselves. But what is felt through every line she writes is her deep and passionate caring for the Jewish state.
These columns provide an up-to- date look at the ongoing struggle in one of the world's most vital areas. They are a must read for anyone who would truly understand the struggle Israel, the United States the free world as a whole are now engaged in.
I could not recommend this book more highly.
