Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Josh Blaylock's information packed Self Publishing guide. If anything that Blaylock's past ten years of publishing has taught him, there's more to making a comic book than just finding people to write and draw it. You need to think about everyone's goals and expectations, and spell them out in writing before you move forward. A must have for anyone interested in publishing, no matter how modest or lofty their goals may be.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Overpriced
DON'T BUY THIS, at least not here. The sellers here on Amazon are ridiculous. $179 for a Trade Paperback? What a bunch of jerks. This is a TBA of four comic size info books on the comic book business. I bought two of them from a seller on ebay and was disappointed when they showed up as 22 page books. I thought I was buying text books or real how to books because of the price here on Amazon. Very disappointing I must say.

As for the content, it is worth buying and reading if you are interested in self-publishing your own comic book. There is not a lot of detail but it is worth reading. This book is more of a hot tips kinda work than anything else. However, I still recommend it to anyone wanting to break into the business. Just don't waste $200 bucks by not shopping around.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Quite nice - a primer to self publishing comic books...
I had never heard of Josh, or Devil's Due Press(his comic company), but purchased this bound edition to catch up on any information on self publishing. 20 years ago I was enthused to publish my own comic book, fueled by the B&W boom and by information Dave Sim provided in the back of 'Cerebus' detailing his self publishing venture, but it was shoved aside for other career choices. Now, I am coming back to self publish, and was interested in what has changed.

The charm of this book, aside from being extremely current in late 2006, is that it is simple and hits all the basic bases of how to approach self publish. Included are plenty of references to places on the web to visit, or places to work with in printing, or con going. Extremely valuable is the compilation of business forms and legal documents to kick off a starter. Over all, it seems like a simplified version of Caputo's self publishing manual from 10 years earlier, and Blaylock's book is the perfect warmer to the Caputo book which is a dousing of information in a world before the collapse of the market and merger of distributors.

You could easily get by publishing with just this book, the internet, a telephone, and some money.... and art work.
