Editor's Notes and Comments:
Product Description:
Washington is filled with blue-ribbon rivers and lakes for flyfishers seeking trout, steelhead, and salmon. The Flyfisher's Guide to Washington details all of them. There has never been a thorough statewide guide specifically for flyfishing in Washington. Author Greg Thomas spent years flyfishing his native state. He details over 80 of the prime fishing waters with tips on how to fish each water, recommended flies, hatch charts, and stream facts. Greg covers all of the famed waters, plus he gives the reader an insight to little known fishing gems. Included are the Skagit River, Sauk, Skykomish, Samish, Stillaguamish, Snoqualmie, Hoko, Yakima, Wenatchee, Spokane, Grande Ronde, Green, Quillayute, Satsop, and others. Greg also covers the many lakes, including Lake Lenore, Pass, Silver, Dry Falls, Dusty, Potholes Reservoir, Big Twin, Omak, Long, and others. There are over 70 detailed fishing maps showing river miles, dams, rapids, acess points, boat launches, roads, and campgrounds. Greg also lists by area all the essential travel information, including fly shops, sporting good stores, guides, lodges, motels, restaurants, and airports.
Amazon.com:
Whether it's spey casting for steelhead on the Skagit or delicately presenting a dry fly on Lake Lenice, the Flyfisher's Guide to Washington will hook you up with all the necessary details for your subsequent fishing expedition. Essential maps marked with acess points, campsites, trails, and boat ramps make this a handy tool and travel companion. Greg Thomas has done his homework and solicited the help of local experts to help dial you into the prime spots. There are tips on wading and reading water, and occasionally some sage commentary: 'Winter Steelheading isn't a sissy sport. If you are not cut out for it...don't go through the motions and crowd the river.' The hatch charts provide useful monthly insect activity for key lakes, rivers, and streams to help you match the hatch with suggested fly options. As Thomas says in his introduction, 'If one angler decided to adequately sample all the good fly water in Washington during a lifetime, it would be impossible.' Well, if you're up for it, this guide will help you try. --Todd Sloan

Really didn't explain much except during peak fishing times. I was not able to be there then, so was very disapointed.

Comprehensive and useful info. Will help fishermen choose among alternatives in areas they are interested in traveling to. Seems to be very current information.

Compared to other Wilderness Adventures Press, "Flyfisher's Guide to..." books I have read and own,(CO & N. CA) this one is a bit lacking. Fishing tactics and recommended tackle is covered well, but the driving directions are a bit vague and maps aren't as detailed as they could be. Also there are only hatch charts for a selected few of the fisheries. Other WAP books I have read included hatch charts/fly suggestions for most if not all the fisheries it covered. If you are a WA flyfishirman chances are you already have this book. Even if it's a bit lacking compared to other WAP books, if you live in WA or fish WA regularly, you should own this book. It just seems a bit dated and could use a revision. My .02 cents.

The guide book is a good start to a new WA fisher. It covers the major river systems (only) in good detail. It does not mention any of the other waters. The hatch guides are helpful and the river descriptions give you a good idea of what to expect.
This isn't the book for you if you are already familiar with the popular stream and you are looking for some out-of-the-way sleeper streams.
