I'm sorry to say that Matt Howarth has decended into the same pitt of obscurity that many creators did who sought to write mainstream action comics that they themselves would have liked to read. A bit like Crossfire, Scout, or Eddie Current. They were all good comics and unique to their creators, but since they did not come from the Big Two, they survive only in the quarter bins. In Howarth's case he created a anarchic realm that reflected his interests: Lovecraft, Philip K.Dick, and an undying adoration for ambient electronic music. The action in the Post Bros comics was silly, violent, but drawn with great energy and always left his few readers entertained. And it's his drawing style that always kept me coming back. He had a great sense of texture and design. His aliens especially always impressed me, I don't think the French science fiction comic artists could have done better. I sincerely hope one day he will find a publisher to reprint the bulk of his work. But it will be a hard sell. Nowadays there seems to be two types of publisher, long established superhero publishers and those seeking a form of respectability from the cultured. Howarth won't find a home in either. My other hope is that he is discovered by Jodorowsky. Those two would have much to discuss. Until then reader, these slim volumes from Aeon Press will have to do.
