Product Description:
While most of humanity has been decimated in the apocalypse, the hunger for sporting events survives and is stronger than ever! It’s race time in Indianapolis, and the only thing hotter than the action on the track is the passion boiling outside of the stadium walls. Local Grendel chief Hack has his hands full. Between the volatile visiting Grendel clans tearing up the town, a mysterious vigilante on a Grendel-killing spree, and forces within his own clan that seek to depose him, there’s little room for error or emotion. But when he feels himself falling for Dana, the city hospital’s headstrong lead physician, he quickly finds things spiraling out of his control. And he’s not the only one with problems. Dana’s struggling with her delinquent son, desperately trying to keep him away from the very Grendel that she herself is growing ever attracted to. Something’s gotta give, in this tragic tale of passion, love, and betrayal.

User popularity level: out of 5 stars

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Grendel universe - from the side.
This trade paperback is a Grendel Tale, which means it doesn't focus on Grendel or any of the main characters. The story is set in the time of Jupiter Asante and Grendel Prime, and shows how the Grendel "might makes right" philosophy would affect government structures.

In particular the book follows the story of Hack, leader of the Indianapolis Grendel clan, and his relationship with Dana, head physician at a local hospital, and her delinquent son, Albert. Hack and Dana like each other, and Albert isn't happy about it. Internal Grendel politics and a serial killer targeting Grendels are a few of the things that Hack, Dana, and Albert have to deal with, all set against the backdrop of the annual Indianapolis race.

The book is interesting in that it shows the actual day to day life of the residents of the Asante's world, but it's not a story focused on the "big names" of the Grendel mythos. Overall it's OK, but you should probably purchase Homecoming or one of the other TPB's first.
