Editor's Notes and Comments:

Brief Book Summary:
This book is about helping the most important people living on this planet: our children. As adults, we can make a huge positive impact on their future, not only in the ‘time-tested’ traditional way of being good disciplinarians but also by helping our youth prepare for adulthood by acquiring self-discipline.

Kids yesterday feel the same types of frustrations and stress as adults, only for different reasons. There is just too much going on in their lives with schoolwork, family, friends, and all sorts of activities. How can they effectively manage these activities and prepare for their future? Do you honestly think that just arming kids with a college degree will guarantee them a rewarding life? Not a chance! Scholastic aptitude is less than half the battle for excelling in life. Most kids will still not be prepared to take on the challenges of adulthood when they turn 18 because our society doesn’t provide enough guidance and mentoring for them. To state it bluntly, kids are being poorly prepared to handle the challenges of adulthood.

All of us are continuously challenged to do more with less in our careers and personal lives. Our children are faced with the same challenge, and we need to help them acquire discipline so they can successfully meet that challenge. Adults must step up to the plate and become Discipline Mentors to give our children the ultimate gift --- the gift of discipline.

How many adults do you know who have failed to fulfill their dreams, or have expectations based on hype? Self-help books and seminars on sucess are only part of the equation required to teach discipline to achieve our dreams and exceed our expectations. Plain old discipline is a simple concept that is hard to live daily, but absolutely essential to success. Many people all over the world know what it takes to become disciplined and understand and agree to the principles behind it. Yet even these people can sometimes barely muster up enough motivation to survive life’s daily challenges. Most of us need a helping hand to get over the hump and if we adults are struggling, consider the plight of our youth!

This book is designed to help adults teach kids to acquire discipline so that they can meet life’s basic challenges and further, achieve their dreams. My goal is to teach as many adults as humanly possible to become Discipline Mentors to teach the key ingredient for success. If our youth want to be in control of their destiny and accomplish more than most people can only dream of, then they need to embrace discipline.

The very first part of the book highlights the four levels of discipline, how we define Discipline Mentoring, a step-by-step Discipline Mentoring Program, and the role and characteristics of a Discipline Mentor. The second half of the book addresses activities to build discipline skills in younger children and children with disabilities.

Although some kids may not adopt the power of discipline, we have a responsibility to Discipline Mentor the ones that really want to excel in life.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A sense of relief and hope, New York, New York
The title captured my attention. As I browsed through the table of contents, I realized there was a chapter on children with disabilities. I felt a sense of relief and hope come over me. My brother is autistic and for a long time I didnt know what to do. This book introduced me to many new opportunities for my brother, family and I to learn about various discipline "things" we can do to help him--too help eachother. I love this book--you will tooo if you have a child in your family that have problems with schooling or even disabilities. The other thing that was nice was that it was written by parents. Some books are written by people who arent parents but "professionals."

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A relieved/informed Grand mother thanks to the guidance of
When I found this book at my neighborhood bookstore, I was feeling deseperate. My grand son has a medical condition that has made our lives roll emotionally like a roller coaster. This book has given me the guidance I needed, yet I never received from professionals. I've shared this book with my daughter,son-in-law, and friends. They too should be enlightened. I'm certain we as a family will be able to organize our lives accordingly. And as for my grand son, he will receive the best care and guidance that he truly will need for the rest of his days but more importantly we as a family will be more disciplined.

I love children but i hate to babysit brats!

I babysit sit my niece (4) & nephew (5). Both parents work long hours & unfortunately do not have time to discipline their kids. And in Asia as in the States a high percentage of kids turn out to be spoilt brats. A few months ago I did some research on the displine and your book titled: Displine- Mentoring Children for Sucess caught my attention.

I have since been using some of the techniques outlined in Ch.6 and after a few months it's a big difference in the children's behavior. I used to hate my job but now i enjoy seeing them everyday. Helping them mature with displine has been rewarding for me, their parents and more importantly for them ( as they mature)

Thank you for publishing such a wonderful book.
Keep up the good work.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Mentoring as a parenting philosophy
This book really hits a home run. Parents take their newborns home from the hospital with no instructions, no manuals, etc. In fact, as soon as we demonstrate we know how to install the car seat, we're sent on our way. How do we raise our kids after that? Well, we need to figure a lot of that out on our own...

Until now, that is. The authors clearly demonstrate how teaching discipline and mentoring our children can set them up for sucess throughout their lives. I've always known the importance of a loving family environment, high-quality education, etc., but now I understand how critical it is to teach my children to set and achieve goals - and how to give them the tools they need to truly succeed.

Thank you!

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - So True
I found this book both insightful and useful. It was insightful in terms of looking at how our children are being over-loaded and over-scheduled all in the name of academic success. Children really do need to be mentored to help them prepare for, and succeed in, the adult world. In order to help children succeed, parents need to focus not only on academics but in helping their children develop discipline to set and achieve goals. This book provides a useful reminder of the importance of discipline in life.
