Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Hannah Howell should have no worries....
Her place as highland romance queen is safe. I don't know where to begin with this book. It started out so good and I thought it was going to be a classic, but no. In a matter of 5 pages this book started to crumble. The main problem with this book, aside from the mistakes, is Laurel. She went from hot to cold in just one page. Her constant picking arguments with Conor was enough to make me scream. This happens through the whole book. When she wasn't arguing with him she was having sex with him. That's all. And as someone mentioned before, Laurel, is loved by everyone in Conor's clan, even though half the time she is doing nothing but arguing with their laird. Ugh, this book was horrible. Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - well....
I hate being a downer, but while I liked the characters for the most part, I found myself annoyed and rolling my eyes alot.
And the history wasn't very good. EX. the date was in the 1300s (I can't remeber exactly) and he gives her a lukenbooth brooch. Just google lukenbooth and you'll find that they are from the 1700s. I copied this from a scottish jewellery page: "Luckenbooth Brooches are so called because they were sold from locked booths in the Royal Mile, adjacent to St.Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh, in the early 1700s, and they were traditionally exchanged between lovers on betrothal."
And there were other moments were I just put the book down and went to something else.
Still there were a few moments that were lots of fun. I liked when Laurel got between her husband and grandfather.
It really needed editing.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - A Jewish Princess, not a Scot.
The story began well, and I liked Conor, but the story slowly deteriorated with the constant acknowledgments of how perfect Laurel was to everyone. She was adored, pampered, loved, indulged, worshiped by all! She was soft, sweet, vulnerable, beautiful beyond imagination, then she was an army Sargent barking orders at everyone, she did whatever she wanted whenever she wanted, and was too self-absorbed to see beyond her own point of view, she was always right, and she was loved and adored by all throughout it all, then she was afraid again, and soft, sweet and vulnerable. By the time the story ended I was way past gagging. She was a "Jewish Princess" in the worst possible way. A Scot would be horrified.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - I find myself bored ...
with the premise of man and woman meeting and they can't stand each other but eventually love each other - at the very end of the book. After having sex they say horrible things to each other. If any man treated me or spoke to me in that manner, then our story would cease to continue! But I did enjoy the story - it had a good enough plot and I loved the historical aspect of the details.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - So many typos, you constantly have to reread. Predictable and corny. Still, story moves well.
I've never read a book with so many typos. (And I've read hundreds of books.) Over and over, words are missing from sentences, words are misplaced in sentences, words are misspelled, and words are printed twice. This made it hard to keep the flow while reading.

If you have read a lot of romance, you'll roll your eyes now and then. Much of the story is predictable and corny. Too many typical circumstances and events. Too many overly perfect results.

One thing that kept this story interesting for me, was the uniqueness and likability of the main couple. The heroine is the usual head- strong female, but she is willing to compromise with her man so that they both can have what they need in their lives. I was especially surprised by the hero at times. While he is the usual strong- willed laird, he shows fear and sorrow for his loved ones quite a bit. It was not unusual for him to shed tears.

Overall, the story moves well. There were a couple of spots where I skimmed through details, but very rarely. This book is a quick read for times when you want a story that won't really pull on your emotions. Sometimes it's good to read these "soap- opera" stories after finishing a book that taps strongly into your soul.
