Lt. Colonel Kratman says he likes bad Amazon reviews because they drive up his sales. Unfortunately I have to disappoint him, because as usual Kratman turns in "political commentary barely disguised as fiction" that is guaranteed to make a tranzi's head explode.
And that's a good thing.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. Tons of non-spot action. This is book #1 of 2. Would love to see more in this line of books. Well worth your money.

This is one of the most entertaining and satisfying novels of the Military SF genre that I have read! Although it is truly allegorical, parallelling the WTC disaster on a new planet, the basic truths are universal. I'm very pleased that this novel is the start of a new SERIES!!!!! I plan to read them all.
I am not going to give a synopsis of the action in the book, since others before me have done so. I don't like to belabor the point. Instead, I will focus briefly on the character development: generally excellent. I felt very much attuned to the principal protagonist, Patric Hennesy (a.k.a. "Carrera"), and several other of the supporting cast were well defined. My only (small) criticism is the lack of a "cast of characters", ala some of John Ringo's and Harry Turtledove's works. There is a ploethera of "bad guys", and it would be helpful for the reader to maintain some continuity. In the same list, an brief redefinition of the acronyms (all loved by the military!) would help.
Aside from the very few minor warts that I have listed above, the book is 5 stars plus.

Fact makes the best fiction.In this politically correct (corrupt) world, all the truths and lies are revealed!God grant us and forgive us, but we need Carreras Legion. A brutal yet fascinating look at the rules of War. History is doomed to repeat itself ,if its not seen with open eyes. Read it yesterday and teach your children tomorrow.

This book appeared on my Amazon site with an inquiry to buy. Mine, unfortunately, is already bought and read---that means I can't have the fun of starting afresh (hardcover, of course). It is interesting to read some of the negative reviews. Let's look at this from the beginning, shall we:
1) Islamo-fascism wishes to kill us---for proof, listen to them without excusing them. Why everyone treats these maniacs like slightly loud mouthed impish boys is beyond my reckoning.
2) The violence in these books serves a purpose---war is inglorious mayhem (I was trained at a VA as a psychiatrist---I know) that is only justified if the outcome without war is worse. Islam triumphant would be worse than war. Eloquently laid out by Kratman.
3) The critics should grow up. As Walter Mosley said about Nero Wolfe (I'm paraphrasing, I'm sure, badly), life is a struggle, with the comforts purchased at a brutal price. If Islam triumphs, the price goes up, if comfort is to be found at all (it certainly won't be for women---I don't understand Western women who support Islamic terrorists). Maintaining civilization is worth fighting and dying for.
And all the philosophizing is worked into a whacking good read!
The only problem I see is that the 3rd book in the series may be a long time coming...I want my Lotus Eaters! (I hope that was a good whine.)
Mr. Kratman is a gentleman faced with a barbarous world, and he outlines our choices well. If reasonable steps (like supporting John McCain on the War on Terror) are not done, the subsequent steps will be forced upon us, for our enemies will not rest just because we do. And we do have traitors within.
