This is a great book to pick up if your curious about the current state of Wildstorm without giving too much away in the surprises of each individual series. I came in with knowledge of Tranquility, Gen13 and Stormwatch PHD. I left this book wanting to delve into what was going on with Wetworks. If you haven't read any of these books at all, I would absolutely start with an individual series beforehand, but if these characters ring a bell by all means its a great place to start and know which part of the current universe may interest you.
From here I would hit the Number of the Beast and then choose from the current comics Stormwatch, Wildcats, Authority or Gen13. After reading through Armageddon you should have a nice start. As I mentioned above it got me thirsty for Wetworks, although this team is not in the current works, there is a full series right before this book and I believe there are intentions for keeping these characters going in side stories.
So overall, great art, nice set-up and a very cool glimpse of the current Wildstorm Universe.

Wildstorm's trinity of stories that leads up to the company's current World's End storyline begins here. Void of the Wildcats has been captured by some mysterious figure in the future; a future where the world has been destroyed. Even in her weakened state, Void is able to teleport back in time and appear before several heroes of the Wildstorm Universe in order to find someone who can stop this future from happening.
I'm sure you're thinking this sounds like every other post-apocalyptic future story you've heard.
The difference?
This future is not preventable.
Much like Judgement Day in the Terminator Universe, Wildstorm Armageddon shows us a future where the heroes have failed to save the world. The Authority's mighty ship The Carrier has crashed into London and most of Europe. Asia has a perpetual cloud of night over it that allows the supernatural creatures of the Night Tribes to run wild with only the remnants of Wetworks and few other heroes to combat it. The small town of Tranquility, which is where many of the aging heroes of the Wildstorm Universe once went to find rest in their old age, has become one of the few safe havens left in the world. But even that is in question now. The Wildcats reside in the ruined city of Los Angeles and use what little Halo technology they have left to help where they can. The Stormwatch team has fled to space and operates from the orbiting space station Skywatch III, trying desperately to help the survivors below. Even the Gen 13 kids are trying their best to survive in the world even though they themselves are not entirely sure how it all happened.
But Void's efforts are not in vain as the heroes she manages to reach bring whatever information they can back to the past to try their best to stop this future, even if it all seems futile.
NOTE: This series is followed by Wildstorm: Revelations. The Authority: Prime and The New Dynamix also act as tie-in stories.

This is my very first review so hopefully it comes out well. It is kinda long but informative to a degree.
Wildstorm: Armageddon is the very first part in a trilogy of mini-series that was to and did reshape the Wildstorm Universe. For those unaware Wildstorm is a division of DC Comics (creators of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, etc). However it's titles do not take place in the same universe that Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, etc exist in. Wildstorm as a company and division releases a number of creator owned comic titles and licensed property titles that tend to be more mature in it's content (action, story, etc) then comics it's parent company DC Comics releases which tend to be tamer. In addition to that it has it's own universe simply named the "Wildstorm Universe".
Wildstorm: Armageddon is broken up into 6 different chapters with each focusing on one of major teams within the Wildstorm Universe (WSU). The series was initially released starting in December of 2007 and ending in January of 2008. It had a bi-weekly release schedule. Each chapter is written by Christos Gage and drawn by various artists. The chapters break down as following.
* Midnighter - A member of the team The Authority, arguably the most powerful and most violent team in the WSU.
* Welcome to Tranquility - A title that focuses on the town of Tranquility where super powered beings to go retire. Their families and others also live there.
* Wetworks - Team of superpowered beings dealing with some of the most vile creatures that walk the WSU Earth. (The most interesting team out of the bunch I feel.)
* Gen13 - A group of genetically altered teens on the run from a cooperation that want to reenslave or kill them.
* Stormwatch: Post Human Division (PHD) - A division of the team Stormwatch that is made primarily up of non-powered members that deal with capturing super-powered criminals before they get to powerful. (I enjoyed this chapter the most.)
* Wildcats: Another superpowered but based out of Los Angeles, California.
Wildcats and The Authority teams are the flagship titles of Wildstorm's Wildstorm Universe and deservingly so.
Going into this book without knowing much more (actually even less) then what I've just wrote it was easy enough to understand what was taking place and who the characters are. The writer did a good job of making sure the principle characters were introduced and those that appear are called by name so one isn't struggling to put name to face. You'd be surprise how often that isn't done in some comics and it can be frustrating. This series could be considered a jumping on point to the universe. As a result it is why it's more friendly to the new reader.
Things start off when a character called the Void (a former member of the Wildcat's team) returns to the past from the future in hopes adverting an event that leaves Earth in ruins. As the story progresses characters from each of the teams are task with finding out what was behind the event that left Earth in ruins in hopes of preventing it from taking place by being thrown in the future for a short period of time. To say anymore is to give away what I think is an interesting story and actually a decent starting point for those interested in a comic universe that is not labeled with the names Marvel or DC. Do keep in mind this is part 1 of a three part event. Wildstorm: Armageddon leads into the series WILDSTORM: REVELATIONS which focuses mainly on the character Nemesis from the final chapter in Wildstorm: Armageddon. Others from Armageddon appear as well throughout that book as well. Like Armageddon, Revelations is also collected into a graphic novel format for easier collecting and reading. I'll put up some thoughts on that later but it took is a good story and after you've read Armageddon chances are you'll want to know what happens next. All of this finally comes to an end in series titled Number of The Beast which has just recently concluded. That in turn leads us to the current state of the Wildstorm Universe which is currently as of July/August 2008 has kicked off an event called World's End. This resulted in both The Authority and Wilcats titles being relaunched with new #1 issues and Gen 13 and Stormwatch: PHD picking up the new storyline in their latest issues (Gen13: #21 and Stormwatch: PHD #13).
Back to the review.
Unlike comics some may be used to this collection of titles included in this graphic novel can be violent but not for the sake of it I feel. These heroes don't have any lofty goals of not killing anyone under any circumstance. If they don't have to they won't but if it's called for they clearly will. They do what they have to do in order to get the job done, to stay alive, or just to be left alone or they themselves will die in the process. I don't want say it's a "realistic" approach but ...
