This book was a huge disappointment.
Although purporting to contain a wide variety of ideas and styles, the pictures in this book were either relatively bland things from fireplace manufacturers, or relatively stuffy items from a small number of ultra-high-end designers who design homes that must be in the $10,000,000 range and whose idea of design is to mimic things from European manors. Pick up a couple of fireplace brochures and a copy of Architectural Digest and you have this book.
This was the very first book of design ideas I have ever bought where I didn't see even ONE idea that I liked.
I buy a lot of books from Amazon, but (no fault of theirs) I'll have to think very long and hard before I buy another design idea book without being able to peruse the book first.

If money is no object, then this book is for you. It contains many photos of exquisite fireplaces in settings that were obviously graced by an interior decorator's skillfull touch. However, as a person of limited financial and artistic means, I found the book disappointing and returned it.

I like this book by far the best out of the 4 "idea" books I got on fireplaces. I was looking for different types of stone fireplaces and accompanying mantles, etc and this book had a slew of them.

We are building a new home, and were looking for photographs of fireplaces to develop design ideas of our own. The absolute best book I've found for our application is this Schiffer Book by Melissa Cardona entitled "The Fireplace Design Sourcebook" It has more photographs than any book I've found, and an enormous variety of fireplace designs to peruse. Another excellent book is The Better Homes & Gardens book "Fireplace Decorating & Planning Ideas", which also contains construction "how to" information.
