What's the attraction for novels about people return to the legalistic religious heritages they grew up in? If it weren't that Tommy Tenney grew up in Oneness Pentecostalism, with its lifestyle similarities to the Mennonites, I would assume he was just one more person who idealized the that lifestyle. As is, I don't get the attraction for that, unless he would consider a return to his roots. The biblical story of Naomi leaving a pagan country to return to Israel is vastly different from an American returning to her Mennonite roots. Return to Christ--absolutely, but biblical freedom in Christ, not legalism, whether it be of the Mennonite, United Pentecostal, Independent Baptist, or any flavor.

A fun, fantastik journey home. I loved reading this book and could not stop thinking about it when I put it down. Even now that I've finished, my mind is still consumed with the characters and places and events of the Road Home. I loved how applicable this book could be to any persons life. I would recommned this book for anyone struggling with thier journey to center themselves and finding balance. I would also reccommend and buy this book as a gift for any mothers, daughters and friends. This book is very uplifting and enlightening. I am grateful this book crossed my path.

A very interesting story of two women named Ruth and Naomi. Naomi has been widowed for a while and in the same day loses both her sons--one to a car accident, one to a terminal disease. The story hinges on the decision of her one daughter in law Ruth pledging never to leave her side, and they go on a cross country trek together in an old automobile. Naomi is from Pennsylvania Dutch country, and has decided to "go back to her people". And that is where Ruth meets Bo, Naomi's cousin...
Very entertaining and follows the biblical story in many ways, yet at times can seem a bit trite. But definately worth the read.

This book is not my favorite. I have read a lot of Tommy Tenney's books and I believe he's better writing non-fiction than fiction. His fiction is almost too simplistic, lacking something that I can't really put a finger on. I much prefer his God Chasers series, and his books about spirituality and pursuing God, to his fiction. I think I'll get my fiction from other sources.

Accurate every step of the way from the west coast to the east, I rode with Ruth and Naomi back to where Naomi came from. I cried, became hungry and was afraid as they made their way back.
This was a beautiful story that provoked thoughts of love and support between two women with nothing left in this world. They were wonderfully rewarded by God in their loyalty to each other as they fulfilled the call of Him on their lives.
This book would make a great Christmas present this year for someone you love and care for.
Once again, Mark has done a lovely job in bringing his readers into his characters lives.
Sincerely,
Paulette L. Harris
