As a rule I do not buy illustrated or coffee table books. I want substance, not nice pictures for my money.
This book does have very beautiful pictures, but it also have a huge amount of real information - useful information. It covers the history, the structure, the practice, and meaning of Kabbalah in all its glory. This is a book recommended for the beginner and everybody else. The Tree of Life is particularly well covered.

The very first good all-area general overview of the Kabbalah I've found. The book covers material from historical and religious background, through the actual substance of the Kabbalah itself, and on to applications and real modern interest.
It is the stuff on the Tree of Life -- and the exercises in the last chapter -- that are the real dynamite though. It's obviously influenced by the western tradition material, but it includes a pathworking for each sphere and path, what to expect in that area, what lessons to learn, and so on. It's a great source of background for practical application, geared specifically towards development towards enlightenment. The exercises at the back are simple summaries, but include some really powerful techniques, including consciousness streaming, will training and a really wildly strong self-esteem booster.
'Kabbalah' looks like a coffee-table book, but don't be put off -- beneath the format, the author has snuck some really hot information into this one.
