Lynn Kurland is one of my favorite authors. She perfects time-travel romance. She always leads the reader into another century where danger lurks and love awaits. Jennifer McKinnon and Nicholas DePiaget have both given up on love. Jennifer seems at very first truly pathetic, low- lifes are always breaking into her apartment and all she has is her beloved violin and her family, until she falls through a time gate to the 13th century practically in Nicholas' lap. He saves her from this crazed witch hunter. Kurland makes up truly memorable and fun-loving characters. Nicholas is perfection, the ultimate dream guy =) REALLY DROOL-WORTHY, and I like strong brawny highlanders myself so that says something. I don't know why Jennifer after seeing and being near him would so desperately want to return back to her own time. All she'd be going back to is her violin...no love. Personally I'd choose Nicolas over a musical instrument any day. You will laugh until your sides hurt and there are tears pouring down your cheeks because you are laughing so hard. Read this excellent book, fall in love with the characters as I have, and enjoy a great read! Please don't miss out on a spectacular story.

The book is filled with cheesy sentimentality and trivial dialogue. Jennifer cries in every chapter, but then says that she is not a "crier". Nicholas is portrayed as a perfect knight, a warrior, but he acts like a love struck fool. There is no plot development, no character development, even the villans are pretty pathetic.
It took a whole of 50 pages for the characters to meet for the very first time. They fell in love almost on the spot but went around in circles, for the very first half of the book, to tell each other how they feel. There is a lot of sexual and emotional tension, but no relief.
Nicholas's brothers are everywhere. Everyone is a meddling, annoying and inserts themselves into the relationship between Jennifer and Nicholas.
The villains have a promising start, but meet a pretty pathetic end. Ledenham has a master plan to kidnap Jennifer and present her to the king as a witch. Well, he kidnaps her, but only because she decides to be brave and follow him because he stole her violin. What a fool. Instead of the conflict being resolved in a grand finale of epic fights and overflow of tension, he just trips on the violin case, falls on a sword and dies. Brigit is not being publically humiliated or cast away for being a scheming vile "wench", instead it is explained in a tiny paragraph that she is kicked out from the castle by Nicholas.
I've never read any other Kurland's books, but looks like she puts too much effort into the romantic aspect of the story, which comes out greatly overdone. The characters repeat themselves too much in every chapter. I had to skip through paragraphs and pages until a point was finally made or to get to the subsequent plot progression.
I do not recommend this author and will not read any more of her books.

I just loved this tender love story. I like erotica also but this novel is definitely a romance. I found the evolution of the story and character very touching. Despite one criticism of Jennifer crying a lot I found it perfectly understandable and I think of myself as a very stoic person. The conditions that she found herself in were definitely cry worthy. She didn't run around sobbing loudly...she often just had tears running down her face as she realized that she couldn't get back to her time. I liked all the secondary characters and would like several of them to have their own story. Nicholas was in a quandary as to what to do but I could see someone in real life reacting as he did. A truly lovely read.

I couldn't wait to get started on this story since I very first met Nicholas in previous de Piaget's books. To me, he is the perfect knight in shining armour and I think LK delivered him perfectly. Jennifer on the other hand tended to be a bit whiny towards the end. Otherwise loved the book. This is what a love story should be all about.
The grandmother, loved the woman, was doubly entertaining in this book, what with her batches of 'suitable brides' for Nicholas. It was hysterical.
But all he wanted was Jennifer, despite the fact she was from another time. He was tormented by this, knowing the pain this would cause him if he admitted to his feelings and she left him, when she found a way back to the future.
Much as I loved this book, there could have been more angsty scenes between H/H. Especially since Nicholas hides a secret from Jennifer. He knows the way she can go back to future and keeps it from her. Surely, this could make up for the lack of loves scenes when she finds out?
Still, the story was breathtaking. I adore the de Piaget's and can't wait for LK subsequent book on this family.

Jennifer MacLeod McKinnon has returned to her Manhattan flat to discover that it's been robbed for the third time topping off a perfectly disastrous evening. Not that it had started out that way Jennifer had been asked at the last minute to fill in for the extraordinary Victor Bourgeois to play a Paganini violin concerto, a dream performance. She'd been dressed like Cinderella and had attracted the attention of the gorgeous Maestro Michael McGillicuty, but the conductor had turned out to be no prince charming. Where to find a knight in shining armor? Definitely not in the Big Apple, so when Jennifer's big sister Megan invites her to England she jumps at the opportunity.
Eight hundred years in the past medieval knight Nicholas de Piaget is weary of his grandmother's attempts to marry him off to the fine ladies of the King's court. Not a one has been interested in him for more than his wealth. For all that, few could even overlook his murky past, and not since his stepsister Amanda had married another had any woman cared for the state of his heart. He's certain his fate is to grow old and fat in his run down, leaky castle until fate brings him into the path of a lovely, feisty, blue headed damsel in distress.
Jen had made a stop in Scotland to visit her (many times removed) uncle, Jamie MacLeod, a seasoned time traveler and former medieval laird. There she had listened to tales of time travel and experienced a little sword play. In spite of her maps she'd gotten lost on her way back to England and stumbled upon a derelict castle which had given her the oddest sense of deja' vous. Still reeling from that feeling, Jen is stunned to realize that she's about to be robbed once more when she takes a step backward and finds herself in an even worse pickle. She's not in Kansas anymore and it's more than likely that she's about to be accused of witchcraft.
Fortunately Jen's not a stranger to time travel and luckily the de Piaget brothers are chivalry personified. Monty seeing her suddenly appear out of the grass is convinced that Jen's a fairy like his new brother-in-law Jake (modern day hero of Much Ado in the Moonlight). Older brother Nick notes her clothing and is sure she's of Jake's ilk. Unfortunately he'd paid little heed to Jake's wild tales of the future. One thing he knew for sure, if any of those stories were true the beauty who had stolen his heart at very first glance would soon be scurrying for the subsequent time gate back home.
But when Jen's gate fails to return her home, Nick begins to hope that he can buy the time to woo and win her. Jen unaware that Nick knows her secret fears she will lose him when he learns of the truth. But Nick has a secret of his own, the location of Jake's time gate. Will Jen forgive him when she learns that all he has to offer is a forever kind of love?
The Boar's Head Trio, Jen's three ghostly matchmaking ancestors are at it again! When I Fall in Love was a hilarious romantic romp as only Lynn Kurland can write. Poor Nick has to deal with his gloating siblings, his scheming grandmother, her shrewish marriage prospects and is forced to eat crow with his futuristic brother-in-law all while wrestling with his own conscience and losing his poor heart to a woman whose experienced luxuries he's never even dreamed of. Will a fortnight be enough to convince her that chivalry is more appealing than chocolate? When I Fall in Love is a charming tale that I highly recommend.
Now that all the McKinnons are happily wed, dare I hope that Zachary Smith will finally get his turn?
