If you are looking for a passionate love story this is not the book for you. It is a nice tale though about two people who have many hurdles to overcome before they can declare their feelings.
Jake Kilchurn lives in modern day London and is the Indiana Jones of finding gems, or at least that is what we are led to believe based on Jake's own musings. He would rather be tromping through jungles than doing his father's bidding which has him in the North of England at a modernized medieval castle. He is in an auto accident and thrust back 800 years in time.
Amada diPiaget discovers him. She is fending off suitors who only want her for her dowry so she sneaks away from the castle only to find a wounded Jake. She is a beautiful girl and when Jake sees her he is smitten. Fortunately, he speaks French and can communicate with the family.
Amanda finds Jake, handsome and great company. She is worried though. He has described himself as only a merchant and her father, who is away from the castle, will never allow Jake to marry her without land and a title. Truly Amanda belongs in modern day times rather than Jake in middle ages. She has a very progressive lifestyle and thought pattern.
Jake at very first wants to get back to modern times but cannot determine how to do so. Until then, Amanda's brothers teach him sword fighting and he teaches them to draw. The family likes him but one of the brothers (who is not really a brother, but raised as one) would like Amanda's hand in marriage also. This was weird and even though they were unrelated felt kind of creepy. They were raised to think of each other as family.
Jake must now try to figure out how to get back to modern times and find a way to bring back some sort of bride price for Amanda. Not an easy task.
Finally, there are no heated embraces in this book. I think the couple holds hands and they kiss maybe once. This book would have rated higher if the leads would have at least expressed some desire to express their love and devotion physically but this never really happened and it felt like their romance was a bit lukewarm.

Only ok. I wouldn't recommend it. I wasn't laughing, surprised or delighted with anything. A few times, I found myself wishing the book would be under I liked the character Jake. I didn't like Amanda.
CAUTION SPOILERS: Amanda was too impatient to wait for Jake's return and ran away to the Abbey which was a terrible decision. I did not like that part. I did like thinking about why Jake wanted to go back in time to live. They had no ice, no clean water, etc., but he liked the brothers and loved Amanda. His modern day family was terrible. His father tried to kill him. He didn't like any of his siblings. He loved the family from 1227 and wanted to live his life with them. That concept was a nice part of the book.
Sexual language: none. Number of sex scenes: none. Setting: 1227 and 2005 England. Copyright: 2005. Genre: time travel romance.

Yes, there could have been more intereaction between Jake and Amanda. Yes, more romance would have improved the book. But I enjoyed the interaction between Jake and Amanda's brothers. Overall, I enjoyed the book and think that most Kurland fans will too.

I won't re-tell the story, as so many other reviewers have already taken care of that. It's true that the romance between Jake and Amanda isn't as well developed as most of Lynn Kurland's stories. They don't spend all that much time together... they fall in love more with the character traits that they observe from a distance.
That said, it's still a wonderful, well-written book that tells the story of Jake's finding a family in the 13th century. He really becomes a part of the de Piaget family. This book is much better as part of the family series, than it is a stand-alone book. Read it... but read Another Chance To Dream and If I Had You first.

This is another witty time-travel love story by Lynn Kurland. Jake Kilchurn is a wealthy and very successful jewelry designer. He is almost estranged from his father, runs his own business, and seems happy with where his life is going, until a visit to Artane and a car accident lands him right in the middle of medieval England.
Amanda de Piaget has been on the marriage block for two years now and is losing hope that there is someone out there who will marry her for who she is and not her impressive dowry. Her famed beauty is renowned throughout England and is debated even over 800 years later by those fortunate enough to have seen her. Amanda is considering the option of becoming a nun when Jake literally pops up in her world.
When they very first meet, there is an instant connection, a chill that is enough to let them know that they were fated for each other. The problem, however, is that Jake's profession and lack of title and lands, in medieval times, are considered far beneath Amanda's station, and so they cannot marry. Jake has to find a way to get back to 2005, convert all his wealth to medieval gold coins, and try to make it back to 1227 before Amanda is married to another suitor.
Dreams of Stardust is an entertaining read, not much action, but enough plots to keep you interested. The characters are, of course, vibrant and lively, with plenty of background material to add richness to the storyline. All in all, it isn't as compelling or earth-shattering as, say, This Is All I Ask, but still an enchanting tale.
