This story is about a young ambitious successful artist who does whatever it takes for the sake of his art. He has sex and then rushes downstairs to his studio to capture the moment. In the future will that indicate he'll have other affairs etc if that what it takes to motivate him? That's the typical artist striving for his art. Pablo Piccasso was like that. Many artists are not monogamous because they need the stimulation, etc, to produce their art. Artists' wives are sometimes long suffering especially if there are children involved. I don't see this couple lasting. As soon as they begin to lose their looks, Nic will try to recreate his youth over and over again by finding younger and younger women to motivate his art. An artist's bottom line is his art.
That's the feeling I got from reading this book.

In this book we have an adventurous, somewhat selfish, hoyden heroine who meets and takes advantage of an eccentric artist to despoil herself for marriage by being painted nude. I enjoyed these characters, especially Nic the artist. It was nice to read a regency without an uptight alpha-male. Nic is a rake, however - the compassionate rake, and our heroine Merry struggles not to lose her heart (and her freedom, she fears) by falling in love with him...or any man for that matter. She plans to live as a spinster rather than under the thumb of a husband.
This story hit it's peak in the middle (as the painting was finished) and probably should have ended there. Instead the author carts the characters off to another location just to create a bit more conflict in the relationship. That's where the book started to lose me and I ended up skimming many parts.
The sex scenes are steamy, and Nic is my favorite romantic hero to come along in quite a while. I just wish the story held up all the way though.

Very well written and there was a wonderful romantic connection between Nicholas and Merry. It was the right length to contain the story, not so long that the author had to pad and not so short that the storyline was in any way shortchanged. I like E Holly's historicals and contemporaries. She has never disappointed me.

If you like steamy, erotic novels, don't let the tag "historical romance" turn you off. I'm not a fan of Victorian erotica, but happy that I purchased Beyond Seduction. Emma Holly hooked me with the plot of a young woman who rebelliously poses nude for the renowned, yet womanizing, painter in order to sabotage a marriage proposal. I did not have high expectations for this novel, but the luscious narrative was so engrossing that I could not put it down until I finished it. The relationship between Merry and Nicolas, initially a cat-and-mouse chase, becomes a deeply loving, passionate relationship between a well-matched pair who understands what the other desires. The sensual and intense sex scenes are mutually satisfying and transforming for both characters. Emma Holly's voluptuous writing style draws you into the moment to make you feel as though you are there. My only minor grievance is that there could have been additional, or lengthier, scenes of Nicolas painting Merry. Overall, this sexy, romantic novel is definitely worth reading--and sharing with good friends.
