Product Description:
Created at the dawn of time to protect humanity, the ancient warriors have been nearly forgotten, though magic lives on--in vampires, werewolves, the Celtic Sidhe, and other beings. But now one of their own has turned rogue, and the world is again in desperate need of the IMMORTALS.
He burst into the battle, his leather jacket billowing and his huge silver sword flashing. Amber had no idea why this windswept warrior would rescue her, but there he was--fighting the same demon who'd killed her sister. Though he was a stranger, she immediately sensed he'd come to protect her. And with the very first touch of his lips on hers, she knew he was bound to her, his body meant for her. Yet the shadow of evil is spreading quickly, and more death will follow unless they can discover the secrets of...THE CALLING.

A good start to what could be a good series. a 3 is OK and a 4 is I Love It, so I am in between that. All books are cookie cutter for the most part, just like TV shows, it there anything really origial left? But it had enough twist and differences to make it interesting, strong male leads I liked and did not want to smack for just being too too much and the heroine was not wishy washing in her stances, and also had a strong character. If you like paranormal genre, it has the request tall, dark and buff species (thank goodness) but the character development showed a lot of promise, enough of what I liked and very little of what I dont of some other writers. I am glad I gave it a try....

The Immortals are five brothers, sons of one aspect of the Goddess and mortal priests. Their mission to keep life magic and death magic in balance, for if one should become stronger than the other the world would become unmade. It is their charge to answer "the calling" when needed, to restore that balance. But the calling had not been heard in seven hundred years, not since Tain had been taken.
Adrian was the oldest of the brothers, born in ancient Egypt to the mother Goddess aspect of Isis. He had not seen any of his brother in all of those years since Tain had disappeared. It was Tain, the youngest who he had felt the closest to and it was his fault Tain had been captured. Adian had gone off to fight the Unseelies alone. Tain had fallen in love with a woman and had chosen to stay with her. While Adrian was gone she had slain the humans and taken Tain. She was a demon, an "Old One" filled with powerful death magic. He had not found a trace of Tain in seven centuries but he heard him crying for help, bemoaning his brother's betrayal in his dreams.
It had happened again but this time the demon had followed the dream back to Adrian. Adrian had been prepared for the battle but then a woman's cry had distracted the demon and it had followed her instead.
Four months later, Adrian traces the cry to a warehouse in Seattle. There he finds Amber Silverthorne, a young, beautiful, and courageous witch taking refuge in a circle of protection as the demon attacks. His dream had not been of her but of her sister Susan, a powerful white witch who had summoned the demon four months earlier and been killed for the effort. A grieving Amber had attempted to retrace her steps hoping to find a clue that would reveal the murderer. It had worked a little too well. And then the warrior had arrived.....
After dispatching the demon temporarily, Adrian follows Amber home hoping to find clues to his brother's whereabouts. In one of Susan's journal they find ancient writings that once translated could provide the necessary clue. The demon distracts them by sending his minions to attach her home. Susan's tampering with death magic had weakened generations of wards on the house and the two flee to Adrian's home in LA.
There they call on Adrian's associates for assistance. These include an Ancient vampire, Septimus who like all undead are death magic creatures and a dragon Valerian. Amber's best friend Sabina, a werewolf (light magic creatures) follows to look after her friend. The demon follows them there, confronting Amber in Septimus' club. Adrian dispatches it once again but not before Amber's truth spell wrenches a clue from it. Ice.
At last Amber decodes the script in Susan's journal, taking them to the frozen north and a cave deep beneath the ice. Tain had been there, trapped for hundreds of years. Adrian and Amber can feel his pain. They now realize that they've been lured into a trap, that the demon had killed Susan and brought them together for a purpose. Adrian had fallen for Amber hard, just as he had planned. The demon had one Immortal and now he wanted two. He would force Adrian to make an impossible choice, his brother or the woman he loved. But the together the pair is strong and the Goddess has plans of her own.
The demon is strong as well and has Tain in its' thrall. Tain only wants to end his pain, even if it means destroying the world along with him. The pair now realizes that they need help from all the Immortals. But the calling hasn't been used in seven hundred years and has all but been forgotten. Somehow they must find the words and on a night of power summon Adrian's brothers to them. But would they answer THE CALLING?
This story is not for the faint of heart. Tain is well and truly ensorcelled by the demon who he both loves and hates. He willingly submits to unthinkable torture and lives only to end his pain. He will betray anyone to do so, even his brother. He hopes by forcing his brother to feel that pain, loving and losing Amber, that Adrian will help him to unmake the world, so that he can finally die. The Immortal is an ongoing series written by four different authors. The subsequent three titles involve Adrian's brothers Darius, Kalen and Hunter. These are THE DARKENING, THE AWAKENING, and THE GATHERING.
A second four book series will begin with Tain's story THE REDEEMING coming in September 2008.
THE CALLING definitely does its job, pulling the reader into the pair's love story while giving them enough of a glimpse of the big picture to entice them to read on and see how the other brothers come in to play. I can't wait to see how they garner the reader's sympathy for Tain who at the moment is not the least bit sympathetic, and that is saying something considering that what the demon is doing to him is so dreadful we really should feel badly for him, but don't

This is part of a 4-book series written by 3 different authors. They did a great job on keeping the story line going between the 3 of them. This is a story of immortal warriors, 4 of 5 which are fighting against demon domination of the world. The 5th brother turned rogue and is on the demons side. There are also witches and vamps, etc., helping in the fight against the demons. Lots of magic and romance included! Great books!

Jennifer Ashley has created a world where vampires, werewolves, demons and magic are a part of everyday life in the 21st century Earth and where life and death magic must be kept in balance. There are 5 Immortals, born from ancient goddesses that protect the human race from destruction that too much death magic can cause. Adrian is the son of Isis. He has spent centuries in the Earth realm trying to find his youngest Immortal brother, Tain, who he believes is being held captive by a woman with ancient death magic. His search brings him to Seattle where he saves Amber Silverthorne's life from a demon attack. Amber just wants to find the demon that killed her sister. When the link between her sister's death and Adrian's brother is discovered, they work together to find the answers that each are seeking. Adrian's job now is to protect Amber from demon and death magic while they are being drawn into a vengeful plot that could not only destroy them but the world too.
Immortals: The Calling is the very first book in a 4 part series where the Immortal brothers are called upon to fight the ultimate battle over death magic. With this story we are introduced to the Immortals and their purpose for existing. Adrian and Amber's battle will captivate the reader with a blazing romance of heart wrenching passion while spine-chilling horrors of betrayal and demonic vengeance will leave you spellbound until the end. There's Amber's werewolf friend Sabine, vampire allies, and a mysterious shape shifting friend of Adrian's that enhance the plot and creates more intriguing scenes that pull this premise together for a spectacular ending that sets into motion the subsequent Immortals' story. I loved this world that Jennifer Ashley has created. It's a page turning read with fascinating characters and a well developed plot that leaves you anxiously awaiting the subsequent story of the Immortals. The subsequent one is Immortals: The Darkening by Robin T. Popp and promises to be just as exciting as this one. Immortals: The Calling is a recommended read from me and a definite keeper.

The Redeeming (Tain's Story) September 2008
I actually delayed reading this book. I wasn't really looking forward to it after reading the mixed reviews. Then I realized that many of the lower reviews were from people who don't like erotic love scenes. If you like the love scenes in series such as BDB, you'll like these.
I really enjoyed the story. With so many paranormals out there, I like reading a book that had some unique characteristics.
The story takes place in modern day Seattle, California, and the Arctic. The paranormal beings are witches, demons, vampires, "The Immortals", and shapeshifters. "The Immortals" are five sons of the Celtic gods and goddesses. They were created to protect the world from death magic. (Death magical beings include demons and vampires.) After several millennia, the Immortals have been all but forgotten. In the past, witches would chant "The Calling" spell to summon the Immortals for help whenever evil threatened. Those of the 5 whom are still fighting evil today, are doing so at their own leisure. Once these brothers realized that they could live in freedom, they each went their own way. They have not seen one another for hundreds of years.
The world of magic is divided between those who live in "life magic", and those who live in "death magic". Life magic lives in the Immortals, good witches, the Celtic gods/ goddesses, and shapeshifters. Death magic lives in demons and vampires. For millennia, they have battled. Adrian, the oldest of the 5 sons, has formed a truce with the vampires of Los Angeles. They work together to prevent demons from overtaking the world.
For 700 years, Adrian has lived in anguish. He had a special bond with his youngest brother, Tain. When Tain was taken prisoner by a demon, Adrian began to search the world for his brother. Not a corner of the world has gone unsearched. Not a day has passed that Adrian has given up the hunt. Tain is in Adrian's dreams every night, calling for Adrian's help, crying in pain from the demon's torture. In 700 years, not a clue to Tain's whereabouts has been found.
Sensing a demon presence in Seattle, Adrian races to the location to kill it. He finds that a young witch is about to be murdered by his enemy. Fighting off the demon, Adrian saves Amber's life. Now he wants to know who she is, and why she summoned a demon.
Amber is alone in the world. Her one relative, her sister Susan, was murdered by a demon 4 weeks ago. Setting up a witch circle in the warehouse where Susan died, Amber is determined to find out who killed her and why. While performing the spell, a powerful demon shows up to slay her. As he attacks, a man crashes into the room through a window. Whomever he is, Amber is glad he's there. He has fought the demon off. Now Amber wants to know why he is here. Perhaps he has answers about Susan. With questions for one another, Amber and Adrian leave the warehouse together to talk.
When Amber and Adrian realize their quests are connected, they begin to work together to find the demon who is Susan's murderer and Tain's captor. Between them they have unbelievable strength and power. Before long, they find they also have an intense bond. Knowing that Amber is mortal, Adrian wants to avoid becoming too attached to her. He fears the day that she would die of old age, leaving him to grieve her for eternity.
Tain's demon captor has come out of hiding. He wants to capture Adrian next. This demon is an "Old One", a being that has lived since the dawning of time. He is stronger than any opponent Adrian has ever faced. Using Tain as bate, the Old One begins to attack and taunt Adrian. Seeing how Adrian has come to care for Amber, the demon plans to use her as well. Hoping to destroy Adrian's good soul, the demon makes Adrian choose between Tain and Amber. One of them will be tortured. Adrian will be forced to watch. Instead of weakening him, Adrian becomes stronger as he begins to recognize that he is willing to stay by Amber's side for as many years as her mortal life lasts.
For the very first time in his existence, Adrian has met a demon he can't best alone. His only choice is to call his brothers to his side. With their combined powers, the demon won't stand a chance. The Calling spell has not been used in centuries. With the help of Susan's coven friends, Amber will find and use the spell to bring Adrian's brothers to their side. Tain is in ... Read More
