Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Hayes is a founder of the Operations Strategy field, and all four authors are on the Harvard Business School faculty. In Operations, Strategy, and Technology: Pursuing the Competitive Edge--the long-awaited follow-up to the highly successful classic, Restoring Our Competitive Edge--Bob Hayes, Gary Pisano, Dave Upton, and Steve Wheelwright take a fresh look at the foundations of corporate success. This book addresses the basic principles that guide the development of a powerful operations organization, and describes how a company's operating and technological resources can be applied to create a sustainable competitive advantage in today's 'new' (global and IT-intensive) economy. Achieving a competitive advantage through superior operations is what the authors refer to as the 'operations edge.'

User popularity level: out of 5 stars

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Slightly wordy, but a good introduction to Operations and strategy
This book was a required read for an Operations Management class I was taking. It is very well written, though my biggest complaint is that the 4 Harvard authors get a little too wordy at times and tend to make it a tougher read than it needs to be. The concepts are very well presented and provide an excellent introduction to operations management if you have never learned much about it. They spend quite a bit of time on the IT and internet-related industries, and their insight is valuable. Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about operations and be able to communicate more effectively on the subject.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Has served well as a reference
I am using this as I strive to be a first-time author. I'm writing on service strategies, my target audience is primarily in the IT services industry. Providing guidance for those responsible for the operation of IT services infrastructure is a key requirement for the book I'm writing. This book helped me achive clarity in my own mind. The concepts are solid and rest on sound principles that I have known from elsewhere.
