Product Description:
When a witch is born, a doppelganger is created. For the witch to master her powers, the twin must be killed. Until now...
Created by the merging of witch and doppelganger, Mirei is a unique being. Her extraordinary magic makes her the most powerful witch alive--and a notorious social outcast. While Satomi, the leader of the witches' ruling Primes, hails Mirei as a miracle, rival Primes proclaim that Mirei is an evil abomination...and that those who champion her must be destroyed. Now the different factions of witches engage in a bloody war with magic, treachery, and murder. But both sides may be fighting for nothing. For the power that the rebel Primes fear, the magic that Mirei alone possesses, is killing her.

The war continues in Witch. Mirage and Miryo are now aware of each other as well as the fact that only one of them can live. There's presently one problem...neither Mirage or Miryo are willing to kill each other. Now what will they do as there can be no more than one witch. It is not possible to have both Mirage and Miryo living as the longer they both live the stronger their magic will get and then the magic will be too strong for Miryo or Mirage to control. Mirage decides to take a gamble and try something with her and Miryo. What happens subsequent will change for everyone involved. Also it seems that Mirage was not the only one to have a doppelganger; as time passes more and more doppelgangers start appearing.
I was glad to see that Mirage and Miryo were developing a really close relationship with each other as well as individual personalities. The journey that began in Warrior has really progressed with much more excitement in Witch. What took place between the pages of Witch kept me captivated till the very end. Marie Brennan knows how to bring readers into her world of mystery, mayhem, magic, and adventure. I can't wait to see what else Ms. Brennan comes up with next.

Warrior and Witch
I'm an avid reader and have now tried TWICE to get into this book. I can't make it past the very first chapter! There are too many things going on. My advice? Don't buy it!

I found this story worth 4 ½ stars. I almost gave it 5 but the plot got a little too linear and the characters while well drawn were not all developed as well as could be.
The following review is a spoiler for the previous book so if you intend to read that do not proceed.
Review:
Myro (witch) and Mirage (hunter) have merged to form Mirei,a powerfull witch with control over void magic. She has survived the initial bad reception and gotten a powerfull ally in Satomi the Void Prime (the Void rules the internal affairs of the winches). Unfortunately telling an organization that has been doing things a given way for thousands of years they are all wrong does not meet with a lot of support. (think Martin Luther and the Catholic church.) So while various rebellions are brewing they need to grab the Doppelgangers to protect them; build support from the nobles, and the religions. Overall a nicely complex stew with some humour and good characters thrown in.
I strongly recommend reading Doppelganger very first and this book will make more sense. Both are excellent reads.

Brennan's sequel to "Doppelganger" does an excellent job concluding the complex, yet intriguing story she has concocted. As much as I enjoyed reading it, however, I was slightly disappointed by the book's actual finish. It did not end gradually, reaching the finale with a smooth, detailed conclusion, but instead ended abruptly. Maybe it was just myself who felt left in a lurch, but that hardly matters. I'd still recommend Brennan's books as enjoyable, thought-provoking and imaginative.

Warrior and Witch picks up seamlessly from where Doppelganger leaves off. And the story is just as compelling, until the end. I was left with the feeling that this book should have had at least one more chapter, but the author got tired of the story so just slapped an ending on it. The status of key characters was left in ambiguity for no compelling reason, and a major battle is started, but then completely ignored except that in the final pages it is inferred that it was won, even though the odds were overwhelmingly against it. A major antagonist is captured, but there is no explanation at all of how this was done.
What ending there is, is easily guessed by the reader long in advance, no plot twists, no surprises. In all, a good story with an apathetic ending. The author should really be ashamed of herself for this.
