Product Description:
The last thing Lady Caterine Keith of Dunlaidir Castle needs is a husband. Widowed and beset up on by unwanted suitors who are more interested in her strategically located land than her ample charms, what the lady of the castle really needs is a champion- and able and valiant knight who will pose as her husband. Her sister sends for Sir Marmaduke Strongbow, a tenacious Highland warrior with a battle-scarred face. Honourable and loyal, he accepts Caterine's offer, but only if she truly marries him. Warily, she agrees, in order to keep her land - but finds she may lose her heart in the bargain to her noble knight and husband.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Great Read!
If you're in for a fun ride on to old Scotland, go for this book. Fun and juicy, very sexy, and hot, too. Love the author, the seller had it to me in 2 days and the read was great. I've owned several copies of this book and go back to it for a fun weekend every now and then. Happy reading!

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - A nice sequel to Devil in a Kilt
Sir Marmaduke Strongbow was one of my favorite characters in Devil in a Kilt. I was delighted when I saw that he also had his own story.

Lady Caterine Keith was in need of a man, no a champion. She needs protection from Sir Hugh who was not content with only taking her livestock but also wanted the castle and to marry her. Twice widowed and her innocence taken early in life she has no need for a man. Too stubborn for her own good, her dear friend Rhonda took it upon herself to send word to Linnet asking for help. Her sister Linnet already had a champion in mind, one of the greatest warriors none other than Sir Marmaduke Strongbow.

Sir Marmaduke Strongbow has much to look forward to. Though there was not a lady in his life, he would soon move into and guard the new castle that he and Duncan MacKenzie has designed. The only thing missing was a lady. Linnet seeks out Marmaduke to ask a favor in the middle of the night while heavy with child. Of course, Duncan is aware that she has slipped out of the bed and he soon finds them in the chapel. Linnet lost her courage and Duncan gladly requested the favor, be a champion to Caterine. He mulls over the request, bad timing considering his new castle will be complete soon. Honor, however will not let him ignore a lady in need.

I found myself a little agitated with Caterine. She was a bit cold. I could understand being apprehensive considering her previous problems but she was icy. One thing I found to like about her was his scars had nothing to do with the constant rejection. I loved his character except I thought that perhaps he was too forthcoming with his feelings. I wanted him to be more firm considering the lady he was dealing with.

Some reviewers hit the nail on the head, there was a very strong sexual attraction there but that wasn't all. He actually wanted to love her, to marry her and make her his wife in every way. He admired her strength and beauty. She on the other hand wanted a marriage of convenience. Slowly she starts to open up her heart. She admired him as a man, a very noble man who was slowly slaying her internal dragons.

The four highlanders he takes along, James (her late husbands self-pitying son) and her best friend Rhonda all make excellent secondary characters. We also visit Duncan and Linnet several times. Duncan, true to form lets off a string of oaths within the very first sentence of his appearing in the book (this was one of the funniest things in the previous book IMO). Linnet appears to use her gift of sight much more in this novel. The mystery behind the traitor adds a nice touch along with the beautiful Scottish setting that Mrs. Welfonder describes perfectly.

A solid read, 4.0 rating. Historical romance readers will enjoy this book.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - wanted to love it!!!!
i read DEVIL IN A KILT and MASTR OF THE HIGHANDS and couldnt wait to find this one[had to buy second hand]. i started reading and thought "any time now".the story just didnt live up to SIR MARMADUKE. it was an ok read but i truly did not like the heroine. yes i know she wnt through HORRIBLE things, but until the end she did not"give"much at all. im sorry because i do love this author.
in the end an ok read but not one to lose a whole nights sleep trying to get to the GOOD PART like i did

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A great 2 book saga if Welfonder
I just finished this book and it is a terrific second book saga of the MacKenzie clan that Sue-Ellen wrote, continued from "Devil in a Kilt". This is a 3 book saga that consists of (Devil in a Kilt, Bride of the Beast, then A Knight is Coming), I have just order the last book and look forward to finishing this particular epic. It takes you back to some of the characters of both these books. Sounds Great!!

This also leads into another saga that will include some of the people of this very first 3 book saga, the very first one is "Devil in my Bed", second one is "Master of the Highlanders" (I think) and the third is "A wedding for (somebody) I am sorry I can not remember some parts of the titles, but once you are on the pages for the others, you will be able to check out the correct names.

Sue-Ellen Welfonder only writes about Scotland which is wonderful if you like to read historical Scottish romances. I d hope this is helpful to you, good reading!!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Revisiting Marmaduke
I just finished rereading Marmaduke and Caterine's story. I fell in love with Marmaduke in Devil In A Kilt and he continues to be my favorite hero of Sue-Ellen's books. She never fails to transport me to a different time and place with her writing. I am there in every book, feeling the wind blow, smelling the peat burn, hearing the sounds and feeling the emotions of the characters as they find their hearts. In Bride Of The Beast, Sue-Ellen has taken two very scarred people (both physically and emotionally) and given them a story that grabbed my heart so profoundly that I picked it up for a second read. I urge you to read this book and be swept away to the highlands and a love story that will grasp you from beginning to end. If you are looking for an author who writes so eloquently about a place that you feel as if you can actually reach out and touch the sights, sounds and smells, and who gives you more than just dialogue but also the emotions the characters feel from deep within, so you come to KNOW the characters deeply, then Sue-Ellen is your author! Her hard work and heart felt emotions about the place and characters she writes about comes alive in the pages of her books.
