Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
A smoldering debut novel exploring the passion, hunger, and danger that can break loose in the moonlight.

From the time she was a child, Mona Lisa knew she was different-but she never knew how different until a man of otherworldly beauty appeared during her night shift in the ER. Gryphon is hurting and hunted and he attracts her as no man ever has before. He is a Monère, one of the children of the moon-and what's more, so is she.

Long exiled from the moon, the men of the Monère serve-and mate with-imperious Queens who can channel the rays of their far-off homeland. Gryphon believes that Mona Lisa is a Queen- perhaps the very first of Mixed Blood ever known. But her introduction to the nighttime court of the Monère, simmering with intrigue, casual lust, and calculated cruelty, is far from smooth.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Quick read!
I bought book 2 at a bargain book store and almost didn't read it when I read the reviews listed for book one, but I went ahead and ordered book one anyway. I'm glad that I did--the story of the Monere was an interesting and thrilling ride. I enjoyed it immensely and found it to be a fast read.

I was a bit taken aback by the obvious 'borrowing' from Anne Bishop. But, after giving it some thought here's what I've come up with. The title High Lord of Hell and the term Demon dead are just that...titles and terms. Her use of the name Janelle is REALLY obvious, but no other similarities between Anne Bishop's Janelle are present. The other thing is Mona Lisa's healing gift which can only be accessed through sexual interaction; this is definately borrowed from Laurell K. Hamilton, but again not exact enough to be plagerism.

I'm giving this book 4 stars because I would have really liked to see Sunny come up with her own terms and titles. She is very creative and can clearly write a good story...it just seems wrong in a sense to 'borrow' from two really successful writers.

I would recommend these books because there really good, there a fast read and the story itself is unique, only a small portion, maybe 5 or 6 pages in all have the borrowed terms, so definately worth reading. This is the very first book I've ever read about children of the moon.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - HOT and thriling
Ok, she is similiar to Laurell K Hamilton. But what a way to go! I just find all the different love interests interesting, plus their new talents make me want to know more. I enjoy her writing is dark, edgy and thrilling.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Liked it a lot. Definitely recommend it.
I'd give it 4.5 stars if Amazon allowed half stars. It had a good story and some good characters which is unusual for erotica. I plan to read more of this series. Story brief: The Monere people have powers and magic abilities humans don't have. The Monere live among humans, but humans don't know they are different. Queens rule territories. Mona Lisa was part Monere and part human and was left in an orphanage at birth. When she is 21, she meets Gryphon and realizes an unusual power exists between them. She stays with him and starts learning of the Monere world and is later accepted as one of the queens. She is in danger several times during the story. I enjoyed the side story about Prince Halcyon. I was surprised with the relationships Mona Lisa eventually had with Gryphon, Amber and Halcyon. I found that creative. I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't go into any more detail. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: ten. There are some references to rape and one semi-graphic rape scene. Setting: current day New York City and Bennington, Minnesota. Genre: erotica and paranormal romance.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Original Fiction Is Supposed To Be Original, Erotica is Supposed to Be Erotic
I honestly couldn't finish this book. This is partly because I was disgusted by the fact that it read like poorly written Anne Bishop fanfiction and partly because the sex was too boring to carry an erotic novel.

Anne Bishop created a lavish, unique universe. Sunny copied bits of it here in an obvious manner that I am not the only one to notice. I have read a lot of fantasy and urban fantasy, and Anne Bishop's world stands out as truly unique among all of them. This is not a case of taking a general, vague idea (such as vampires and werewolves) and putting a unique spin on it--this book blatantly copies ideas, words, descriptions, titles--even _names_.

Frankly, I am a little surprised that this book doesn't have legal problems.

And, at the end of the day, the book wasn't nearly as good. I don't know where people got the idea that graphic or edgy sex is automatically erotic, but I have read kisses that were more steamy than some of the blatant, mechanical, detail laden sex scenes in this book.

Every time I criticize books like this I get accused of being a prude, which is hardly the case. I read and enjoy erotica--when it is erotic. All the dirty words in the world won't make a scene hot--and when a book has no cohesive plot and rests entirely on the sex, the sex had better be hot.

I can get better erotica than this online, and I can do it for free.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Reminds me too much of the Meredith Gentry Series.
When I very first started reading this book I thought I had picked up a book by Christine Freehan or Sherrilyn Kenyon. The book started out way too mushy and romancy for me. I mean geez, Mona Lisa was sleeping with her guy very shortly into the book. I actually started snickering at the cheesy descriptions of Gyphon's skin, hair, and eyes. I almost couldn't get past that. But I had borrowed the book from my mom and she wanted to know what I thought of it. I decided to preserver; my mom doesn't recommend bad books to me and I figured why should she start now!

Basically the premise of the story is that Mona Lisa always knew she was different; she finds out rather quickly that she is a Mixed Blood. Her blood is mixed with that of the Monere. Not only that but she is powerful enough to be a Queen Monere. The book follows her struggles to gain a place in Monere society, survive the trickery of the other Queens, and start to form a loyal following of men to be her guards. Mona Lisa is seen as a breath of fresh air for the male Monere who are used to Queens being deadly and treacherous.

This book did get better. As it continued on there was murder, mayhem, and fun galore. Some reviews I have read of this book have lauded the creativity of the Monere race created in this book. I guess I have to disagree with that; the Monere race seemed like a repeat of Freehan's Carpathian race or Kenyon's Dark-Hunter race. As the book continued I began to be reminded of Laurell Hamilton's Meredith Gentry series. The gathering of men that takes place in this book (along with plentiful sex) and the sharing and manifestation of new powers between the characters is very reminiscent of what happens in the Meredith Gentry series. One thing I really didn't like about this book was there was just too much rape in it!

Overall this was a fun book to read. It was a quick read, fairly well written, and (after the very first few chapters) face-paced and action-packed. If you are out of Meredith Gentry, Dark Hunter, and Carpathian novels to read this one would be worth picking up. I thought the book leaned more to romance than fantasy. I suppose it is a fine line to draw. But personally where I enjoy Laurell Hamilton, Kim Harrison, and Charlaine Harris, I do not take much pleasure in the books written by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan, and others of that ilk. There is a line for me where a book becomes too much of a romance and this book teetered on that line.

I might go ahead and read the subsequent book in the series since my mom has it already. Personally I am just getting involved in too many of these paranormal type romance series. These types of series seem to go on forever. This book wasn't good enough to trump some of the other series I am in the middle of reading.
