Brief Book Summary:
First Betsy Taylour loses her job, then she's killed in a car accident. But what really bites is that she can't seem to stay dead. And now her new friends have the ridiculous idea that Betsy is the prophesied vampire queen, and they want her help in overthrowing the most obnoxious power-hungry vampire in five centuries.

I remember back when I had to hunt for my "romantic horror" pretty hard. Now the market is flooded. I avoided this one for a long time because it seemed like a joke. Well, it is, kinda. The author does have a voice that lends more towards the comedic side. But, I needed a change of pace and this certainly provided it.
My best advice is to try the very first few pages over some coffee or tea in the bookstore if your Uncertain. Maybe it's not for you. Maybe you'll be drawn to it at a later date. Or maybe you'll find a sudden need to devour them all.
And... I can't help but picture Reese Witherspoon as Betsy. lol.

Betsy is having a bad day: she lost her job, had to cancel her birthday party, and on top of all that, she gets hit - thanks to her cat - and dies. And as if that isn't bad enough, when she wakes in the morgue, she's in her nasty stepmother's ugly pink suit and cheap knockoff shoes.
And now she has two groups of vampires - one led by a raging madman, the other led by an incredibly good-looking, but pushy, hunk of man (nay, vampire) - fighting over her, trying to teach her the ways of vampires (half of which don't seem to apply to her), and all she wants to do is figure out how to live without relying on the charity of her superrich best friend.
I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, Betsy (who happens to be the narrator) annoys the snot out of me: she's shallow, vain, and lives for nothing but designer shoes (although I love her don't-mess-with-me attitude; it reminds me of my best friend in so many good ways). On the other, the story intrigued me (and so did the male MC, Sinclair - what a hottie!). So I'll read the book, and I'll read the subsequent one, and possibly the third.

I bought this book after reading the author's acknowledge page on one of her other books. I had high hopes because I liked her writing style given on that acknowledgment. Imagine my surprise when it took me a good month or so to plod through this book (and I'm a fast reader). I couldn't get into the weak storyline and even weaker plot. The characters were too unbelievable (and I'm a writer) and the author's overuse of the F word left a bad taste in my mouth. I probably won't be reading any more in this series.

I liked the premise and there were some moments of amusement in this book. But overall it was just tedious and juvenile. I understand that it's supposed to be a parody of sorts, but so much of the dialog felt like a very bad sitcom to me... wooden and repetitive lines spouted by two-dimensional characters.

A vampire story with a comical twist! Plus the requisite smidgen of romance... The main character's take on becoming a creature of the night was lighthearted, funny, and unique. The characters were completely unbelievable, but in a fun way, and the storyline kept me reading. There are portions that are a little raunchy, so parental guidance is suggested. I would say that if you're looking for a fun, fluffy tale to read, this is a good book to choose. However, if you're very into 'real' vampire lore, I'd stay away from this book. It doesn't have the hard, gritty feel of your typical horror-genre vampire story.
