Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:

Zachary Bronson has built an empire of wealth and power -- now he needed a wife to help secure his position in society...and warm his bed in private. But not just any woman will do for a man whom all of London knows is not a gentleman. Then he unexpectedly swept Lady Holly Taylour into his arms for an unasked for -- but very alluring -- kiss, and suddenly he knew he had found a woman whose fierce passions matched his own.

Lady Holly Taylour was beautiful, generous, and, as a widow, destined to spend her life playing by society's rules, even when they went against her bolder instincts. But Zachary's kiss had aroused her, and though the shocking offer he made didn't include marriage, she was compelled to risk everything and follow him to the place where dreams begin.

Customer Reviews
User popularity level: out of 5 stars

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Weak plot. Heroine was too illogical.
The heroine Holly had terrible judgment. She made stupid decisions. She was a respected lady and a widow. A rich commoner Zach offers her a job for a huge amount of money which would tarnish her reputation. She decides to take the job to provide security for her daughter and herself.

CAUTION SPOILERS:
Later when she and Zach fall in love, she says she must leave him because it might hurt her reputation. (I thought her reputation was already hurt.) She also didn't want to take a chance that she might lbe hurt if she ever lost Zach. After three weeks, she goes back and says (page 311) "Please let me stay on any terms you desire. Don't make me live without you." He takes her back, they go to bed then she demands that they have no more sex until after the wedding. He doesn't want to but says ok. He was such a loving and giving guy. She was back and forth with her illogical and unreasonable demands. I was too angry with her to enjoy it. Most romance novels have a separation between the lovers after they very first get together. Some authors come up with good reasons, this author did not. This author has a pretty good style of writing, but the plot was messed up in this story.

Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: seven. Setting: 1830 London. Copyright: 2000. Genre: historical romance.

To date I have read five Lisa Kleypas' books. My reviews for all of them were posted on 6/14/08 except for Lady Sophia's Lover, posted on 4/22/07.
4 stars. Lady Sophia's Lover. Copyright: 2002.
3.5 stars. Worth Any Price. Copyright: 2003. (Best if read after Lady Sophia's Lover.)
3 stars. Someone to Watch Over Me. Copyright: 1999.
2 stars. Mine Til Midnight. Copyright: 2007.
1 star. Where Dreams Begin. Copyright: 2000.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - An unexpected twist regarding a "first husband."
I really enjoyed this book. It was not what I thought it was going to be. In the other romances I have read, when a heroine has a very first husband, he's an absolute turkey. I have read stories where the very first husband was mean, abusive, a drunk, ignores the heroine, or is old as sin and married the heroine to spite his family!. In this case, George is a great guy who was the heroine's true very first love. George and Holly were the cute couple everyone liked. Even George's family is nice; they shelter Holly after George's death.
This was a case where the new love and the old love were very different, but each special to the heroine. The hero didn't have to right any wrongs done by the very first husband, he just had to be himself and love the heroine. It was a very nice read, each character was so well developed.
I didn't give it 5 stars because of a section in the end that was unrealistic in my opinion. Not that romances are always realistic! It just seemed unneccessary.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Initially fought purchasing this book - ultimately came to love it
I read the back cover and wasn't all that interested in the storyline. It isn't my usual cup of tea, though I love a lot of Lisa Kleypas, so I figured what the heck.
Boy am I glad I purchased it. Usually I like my heros to come from good backgrounds - perhaps abused mentally, but overall wealthy and mannered (what can I say, this is fantasy right??) I also like heroines who are strong but not too bluestocking. Despite my reluctance, I really liked both Sarah and Derek. There were some great scenes where you really feel you get to know the characters and it had a good dose of steaminess

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - One of her best!
I have to say this is definitely a must have! It made me laugh and cry! Lisa Kleypas was true to the way life was for those who grew up less fortunate, how they would act, ect. Excellent book!

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - I'll read anything Lisa writes
I love all things Lisa Kleypas. I recommend every book she writes. She's always got really well developed characters and witty dialogue. Almost all romance novels are predictable, but at least with these you enjoy the journey!
