First is the strong, reserved, very masculin Navajo, Jericho Bedonie, 35, a singer. And he definitely does not want to be around the new extern that Jack Keller brought in.
His sister, Shadow Bedonie [2] she wants help brought in to the rez, especially as they were being hit with Tah honeesgai, the Mystery Disease.
And Dr. Abe Kolkline didn't put in an appearance very often.
Ellen Lonetree [3] has trained as a nurse and is a Navajo healer and doesn't want any Anglos around. She is angry that the Anglos don't respect the Navajo's traditions.
Catherine Landano aka Lanie McDaniel, 29, and extern from Boston comes with a deadly secret and she hopes to hide on the rez.
On the way she meets Richard Moss who seems attracted to her and just how innocent is he?
Catherine turns out to be a redheaded, green-eyed Irish woman with a bit of a temper - with her hair dyed grey - Jericho dubbs her "Cat-Eyes" and is drawn to her against his will. After all these years his libido is reminding him that he is still alive.
Catherine clashes with him and is in fear of the strange goings on aimed at her and then Jericho decides he has to protect her from the "spirits", chindi's, ghosts.
She is broken up when she loses a young 16 year old girl to the "Mystery Disease" but ultimately saves a young boy and even pulls through herself.
She does finally figure out the source of the Tah honeesgai much to the CDC doctors surprise.
Really a great story even when they crawl into bed with each other [always before they decide they can love each other - my only complaint] - very entertaining - wonderful characters like Lance, Uncle Ernie, who taught Jericho the songs and Grandmother Yellowhorse, who bargains for a sing for Tommy.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --M -- Definitely a Keeper Set for me.
