I started with Accidental Vampire, accidentally. Elvie is my age, ok, a few years younger, and I want to BE her. The humour Ms. Sands uses throughout, including the steamy parts makes this story so, you should forgive the xpression, "human". This is the sort of love life every girl should think she is entitled to. Believe me, if I wasn't still married to the love of MY life, I'd start looking for Argeneau's looking for life mates. Then I discovered it was the 7th (seventh!?) in the series, I naturally had to acquire the other 6, right. Now 10? Goodie, Goodie! My summer's reading is solved!

I'm being generous with the three points I gave this book. The characters are funny and lovable (Elvi is a real sweetheart and Vincent is a great, caring guide to her as she resolves her misconceptions of vampirism), the dialogue is witty and exuberant (the opening dialogue involving an errant bat in the house made me laugh out loud), and the concepts are clever (Vampires as Atlantis survivors, vampirism triggered by nanobot-like technology)... But the execution is awkward at best, uneven and inconsistent at worst. How exactly did she fail to turn her best friend (by apparantly having her friend drink from her, the way it's done in the movies), if she herself was turned just by accidently ingesting vampire blood?? I also found the lack of tension among the troupe of vampires vying for her affections a bit disappointing, but it's a bit of a relief from the usual Macchiavellian machinations among the children of the night which tend to dominate much of vampire fiction.

The accidental Vampire while a good book could have been better. Everyone
knew She was going to end up with Victor for me what would have made
it better if the book hadn't ended so happily ever after. Yes it is a
fantasy but it is also taking place in the real world to take advantage of blood banks and other every day morden conviences. Five men invited to
persue one woman shouldn't all end up finding true love in one place. How
come there are all lifemates available for each vampire suitor who came?
Why didn't the Vampire who was her sire Know that he sired a vampire was
there no tie because he didn't purposely make her one? And give me a break I would have killed the teenager never mind say I forgive you to the parents who was trying to break the so called evil hold over him. The one thing I totally agree with in the end is that living in that town is punishment enough. With friends who automaticlly believe you should change how you live entirely by facts that exist in books and movies who needs enemies? I felt her running out to the supermarket and to get a bed right away when she realized she could eat and sleep like she use to understandable not humourous at all!

I'm coming to the conclusion that either 'Lynsay Sands' is the collective name for a group of writers or else she relies on her editors to make her books readable. This is the second time I've read a book in her vampire series and genuinely wondered if it was written by the same author as the others.
Tall, Dark and Hungry, Bastien's story, was ponderous, completely unfunny and contained characters that made me roll my eyes in dismay. The characters in this book aren't quite that bad, but parts of the plot are barely credible and - astoundingly for a published novel - there are spelling and grammar mistakes I wouldn't expect an eight-year-old to make. For example, 'jamming on the breaks', and 'the single's column', and Sands' complete inability to distinguish between the present and past tenses of the verb 'to be'.
Leaving those aside, The Accidental Vampire has some merit, in particular the departure from all characters having to be young and gorgeous in order to be attractive. The attraction between one secondary vampire character and a 60-something mortal was very nicely done - and why shouldn't a youthful-appearing vampire find an older woman appealing? He's centuries old, after all. I also liked another minor vampire character being drawn to an 80-something woman (relationship offscreen).
But the need to strain credulity abounded. For instance, part of the 'suspense' hung on whether or not Elvi was Victor's lifemate - which would lead to conflict with his role as a vampire law enforcer. It takes about two seconds and very little effort to check whether or not he can read her mind - the test of whether or not she's his lifemate. And he doesn't do it for days, despite being overwhelmingly attracted to her. Unbelievable. As was the next-door-neighbour sub-plot, or indeed the entire town colluding to celebrate their local vampire.
I'm hoping that my subsequent Sands will either be written by the real Lynsay Sands, or edited by someone competent.

Elvi's life during the past five years has sucked! Literally. She went on a trip to Mexico with her best friend Mabel, got into a pretty nasty car accident and woke up a vampire. Now, Elvi has to sleep in a coffin, which is nowhere near as comfortable as her old king size bed. She doesn't have a reflection and worse yet - Elvi can't eat anything but blood! So far, though, Elvi has been doing fine, thanks to Mabel's help and all the townspeople helping Elvi cope and survive. So, when they all get together in order to find Elvi a vampire mate, they all end up with more than they bargained for - especially Elvi!
Victor Argeneau has lived a long, long time. Frankly, he has been a little bored with life until his brother Lucien got him involved in the Vampire Council as an Enforcer seeking out vampire rogues. Currently, he has been sent to find out if the woman Elvi that has been subject to some very disquieting rumors is indeed a vampire. Because if Elvi is a vampire, Victor is going to have to turn her into the Council for punishment, maybe even for execution, for exposing the vampire community to mortals. But on arrival to the small town of Port Henry, Victor finds the last thing he expects - a clueless vampire that has been living according to every cliché ever conceived about Vampires and his very own lifemate.
Will Victor be able to save Elvi from the wrath of the Council? And more importantly claim Elvi for his very own?
The Accidental Vampire is a great continuation to the Argeneau saga, this time bringing us the story of Victor who has been morose and taciturn in previous books. This time Victor is accompanied by the ever-cheerful DJ who proves to be the comic to Victor's straight man. Victor is a charming character with his old-world charm and his bafflement in the face of the workings of the female mind. Elvi is a fun character as she quickly makes fun of herself and her situation when she discovers that she can once again enjoy the things she has been missing - like food, a bed or mirrors. I must say this book had me laughing out loud several times with the antics of Elvi and the townspeople that have pulled together to keep her alive. Elvi and Victor are great characters that will entertain you with their banter while the secondary characters will amuse you with their witty one-liners as well as a comic back-drop to the romance. The Accidental Vampire is an extraordinarily funny book full of interesting and charming characters that will keep you glued to your seat and turning the pages!
