Weird mix of time-travel and fantasy where Camelot is taken over by the evil Fey, Morgen, after Arthur falls; and the finding of the evil sword Caliban by a poor peasant boy leads to him becoming the Kerrigan, a centuries-old dark king and warlord of Camelot.
The nasty evil folk at Camelot are opposed by the Lords of Avalon, who seem curiously inept as they seek a girl who is prophesied will bear a merlin (magic-user). Seren is the girl, and she flees their crazy-talk right into the arms of the Kerrigan, who "saves" her by taking her straight to Camelot where Morgen hopes to use her to barter for magical items that will consolidate their power and enable them to rule the world. Seriously. Well, in this book, seriously.
It's a pretty weird mix of stuff: magic enables the good guys and the bad to be able to pop into the present day, so Morgen gets her slaves to buy her Starbuck's now and then, and drives the Kerrigan to distraction by playing INXS at her parties. The mix of the contemporary items and dialog isn't a happy one, and doesn't really seem to add much or have a purpose aside from being hip and anachronistic. Also, the very odd take on the Camelot legends can be disconcerting. But the basic story of the very evil Kerrigan finding love and redemption is cool.

I expected an average bit of romance fluff, however surprisingly it was a unique twist on the Camelot Legend. It had somewhat of a mushy ending expected with most romances. But it left things open-ended where the war in the struggle between good and evil are far from over. I like the fact that unlike most romance novels, this one is filled with a fantastical world filled with magic.

It felt like a cinderella-type fairy tale. Downtrodden peasant girl is taken by a prince of darkness, but he turns into a prince of goodness due to her influence. In the beginning, she stood up to him, did not fear him, this intriqued him, and he then fell for her. Their falling for each other seemed a little too quick and unexplained for me. I also did not like the many references to 20th century living. This story takes place in the middle ages, yet some of the characters would use words from the 20th century as if they lived in the 20th century. For example, she loves her Starbucks coffee, this is not a suicide hotline, I saw that happen on an episode of X-Files. Since some of the characters had the ability to time travel, I don't understand why they would choose to stay in the middle ages. Time-travel was not necessary to the plot. The only time it was connected to the plot was when they were running away from the evil queen for a short while before they returned to the safe place of Avalon (in the middle ages). The time-travel comments were a disconnect. They interrupted the flow of the story. I felt that the author was trying to be "cute," but I found it annoying rather than funny. The only redeeming quality in this story was that there were a few interesting plot developments. Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: four. Setting: middle ages, London, Camelot and Avalon. Genre: historical, paranormal romance.

A huge fan of Camelot, Merlin, Arther, Knights and anything to do with Scotland, I ordered this book as a treat to myself. I was not disappointed! Kinley Macgregour is a superb author with witty, well-rounded characters and well-paced plot. I look very forward to reading the subsequent book in the series.

This was my very first read by Ms. Macgregour .. and I loved it. I could not put it down. I loved the anti-heroine "little mouse", who believes in good and who believes there is good within everyone if you treat them with kindness and gentleness. Kerrigan was a great tortured hero, in whom our heroine saw a different person than he viewed himself.
I'm off to find Book #2 in the series now.
