Meet Our Hero . . .
Gareth St. Clair is in a bind. His father, who detests him, is determined to beggar the St. Clair estates and ruin his inheritance. Gareth's sole bequest is an old family diary, which may or may not contain the secrets of his past . . . and the key to his future. The problem is—it's written in Italian, of which Gareth speaks not a word.
Meet Our Heroine . . .
All the ton agreed: there was no one quite like Hyacinth Bridgerton. She's fiendishly smart, devilishly outspoken, and according to Gareth, probably best in small doses. But there's something about her—something charming and vexing—that grabs him and won't quite let go . . .
Meet Poor Mr. Mozart . . .
Or don't. But rest assured, he's spinning in his grave when Gareth and Hyacinth cross paths at the annual—and annually discordant—Smythe-Smith musicale. To Hyacinth, Gareth's every word seems a dare, and she offers to translate his diary, even though her Italian is slightly less than perfect. But as they delve into the mysterious text, they discover that the answers they seek lie not in the diary, but in each other . . . and that there is nothing as simple—or as complicated—as a single, perfect kiss.

I usually love Julia Quinn's books but was sadly disappointed that she cheated her readers out of a full ending on this one. Very bad decision and I'm not shelling out more money for an e-book addendum to the ending on her website just to find out what really happened. I feel cheated out of the money and time I spent on reading an incomplete story. Sorry, Julia, you're a good writer but this was unfair.

This book just sparkles with witty conversation and funny happenings! There isn't so much of the heaving bosoms & panting conversation that you might find in many historical romances, but who cares when it's this enjoyable? I laughed out loud many times as Hyacinth & Gareth sparred & parried with each other. The plot is interesting, secondary characters are fun and don't steal the show & it's nice to get an update on characters in previous novels in the Bridgertons series. Too bad the dowager Vicountess Bridgerton doesn't have a few more kids to introduce to society since this series has brought me so much enjoyment!

i must agree with most of the fellow reviewers, it was an ok book, kind of dissapointing, kind of lacking. Not enough chemistry, and Hy, well she was just not really special. Regardless, it was a cute book. I read it before The Viscount Who Loved Me, and didnt think much of Anthony's scene, but after i read the later i couldnt understand his attitude towards Hy. I loved his book, the hero and heroine had enough encounters to make romance seem believable enough, and u coulnt help falling a little in love with the viscount, but Gareth? How was he a rake, a rogue? Hy seemed to take "advantage of him, bested him at every turn. He was'nt that big of a rake. Finally, the biggest dissapointment, the jewels!!! What tha Heck ( pardon my english) was that!!!!! So much for nothing, meaning what, they lived on her dowry. And their daughter simply decided to keep the jewels to herself!!!?????? Like Lady Whistledown would say: "This author must confess, she was rather confused with the turn of events in the story, and she can only hope that the subsequent books of our otherwise superb writer are a bit more exciting and interesting, then again, this author can only hope!!!!

I really liked the two main characters in this book. I thought the banter was witty and the two had good chemistry. I liked seeing so much of Lady Danbury, but I missed the rest of the Bridgertons.
My only real gripe was in the very, very end. The end of the epilogue in fact when the daughter does what she does. I'm not sure what motivates her. I got a negative feeling about her and I don't think that was what Quinn was going for. I'd have liked to have known how much she knew about the treasure and what her purpose was in her decision.
It seems silly, but I liked the story so much and that last little bit kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.
But I did enjoy it quite a bit. I'm reading that Ms. Quinn was made to rush the completion of this book. That's too bad. I'd be interested to know what she really had in mind for it. I thought it did seem a bit rushed in the last chapter or two, but not nearly as badly as some others I've read.
All in all I can recommend this book. Great heroine, great hero, great old dame, and a little mystery to keep it spicey. Very good.

I found the ending involving specifically Isabella's decision to be a tremendous letdown for the entire story. Truly blew off the main characters and their story. JMO, too bad.
